Relaxed, harmonious practice atmosphere

with vigorous training

Aikido is a modern Japanese Martial Art developed by Morihei Ueshiba from ancient Jujutsu styles. Shodokan Aikido is a style founded by Kenji Tomiki, one of his earliest students. It incorporates both formal paired kata training and "freestyle" randori.

Randori is important since it teaches us to apply and counter techniques under difficult circumstances. Unlike Judo randori, which includes grappling and throwing techniques, Shodokan randori uses striking and joint techniques.
