Go to a place you find conducive to spiritual work. You may want to seal the space by using the Reiki Power Symbol on the floor, each wall and the ceiling.

If you are using objects to help you focus your attention, you will need to lie down. On the other hand, if you are not, then you can sit or lie down as you feel most comfortable.

Use whatever technique you employ to prepare yourself for spiritual work. This can be a short Gassho meditation, a breathing exercise, etc. It's important to clear your mind so that you will be receptive to the lessons to be learned or the information to be conveyed.

Recite an invocation to direct this work and to enlist the assistance of your spiritual guides and other teachers.

One invocation I favor is:

Compassionate Lord of the Worlds, open my heart to your Divine wisdom and the wisdom within myself. Guide me to accept the lesson and information given from this Practice.

Ascended Reiki Masters, my own Reiki guides and other spiritual teachers join with me in this healing activity and strengthen its effects.

When you have done work similar to The ICRT's "Meet Your Spiritual Guides" tape, you can call upon your guides by name. It is also useful to call upon other teachers and masters, e.g., Jesus, Kannon, etc. What is very important is that the invocation expresses your feelings and intention. So change the above suggested wording to reflect your own voice.
