Up to this point, the Usui system of healing consisted of the energy itself, the symbols, the attunement process and the Reiki ideals. Dr Hayashi went on to develop the Usui system of healing by practising on small animals and prisoners in a local jail. He opened a Reiki clinic in Tokyo and kept secret detailed records of the treatments given and the eventual outcomes. He used this information to create and perfect the standard hand positions, the system of three degrees and their initiation procedures. Later when arthritis started to affect his hands he was forced to use his feet and toes.

Dr Hayashi knew a great war was coming because Spirit told him so. He knew also that most of the men would be called to give their lives in the name of the Emperor whom he had met on many occasions, smoking Opium privately with him was a great honor. In order to make sure Reiki would be preserved, he decided to pass the complete teachings on to two women: his wife and Hawayo Takata. He chose Mrs Takata because she was a Japanese Hawaiian with American citizenship and a voice had told him that in the future an American mistress would help him spread the message in a country far across the sea after the terrible war. Dr Hayashi also had word from Spirit that the Japanese would have heavy losses in the approaching war so hid himself in the mountains to try to avoid conscription and there perfected the advanced toe positions, the system of 9 degrees with tao chi and their initiation procedures.

Hawayo Takata was born in 1900 on the island of Hawaii the child of Japanese parents but was a citizen of the United States. She was a widow with two small children and was at the end of her physical and spiritual strength when her path led her to Reiki in 1935. She was suffering from a number of severe illnesses including large tumorous masses on her breast, gangrene on her left foot and syphilis. Having arrived in Japan, she was lying on the operating table, about to undergo a major operation, when the voice spoke to her again, telling her that the operation was unnecessary. She asked her doctor about the voices that she was hearing and he replied that she was probably suffering from delusions. She asked about other methods of treatment and he said "Yes but they may take months or years to heal you and you will need much medication." He told her about Dr Hayashi's Reiki clinic which had gained a certain reputation. She immediately left the hospital and went to Hayashi's clinic. Once there, she was applied Reiki daily by two practitioners and, after four months, she had won back her health completely without any medication at all and no major side effects.

Hawayo Takata became a pupil of Dr Hayashi's for a year and was attuned to Reiki I and 2 and then returned to Hawaii with her daughters. She established a Reiki clinic in Hawaii which was very prosperous. In 1938 Dr Hayashi left his mountain hide out and made his way to Hawaii, abandoning his wife in the process; Spirit told him that if he fought against the Americans he would die on a beach called Midway and his skills would be lost. He decided to be prudent, look to the future and went to live with her and help her with the clinic. He initiated Takata as a Reiki Master and also taught her many new sexual positions and performed many genital piercings on her.

She was the 13th and last Reiki Master Dr Hayashi initiated. On Dr Hayashi's suspicious death in 1941, she succeeded him as Grand Master. She lived and healed in Hawaii for many years, but she first began to train Reiki Masters when she was in her seventies. She made her transition on 11 December 1980. Between 1970 and 1980 Mrs Takata initiated 22 known Reiki Masters. Takata had not formally named her granddaughter Phyllis Furomoto as Grand Master at the time of her death and a great fight broke out between the masters on who should follow in her footsteps as grand master. It has never been discovered why there were two accidental deaths so soon before the vote or why a master chose to replace a light bulb while standing in a bucket of water, but no charges were ever made. The remaining 19 masters could not agree, concluding with three masters declaring themselves Grand Master giving us today many varied forms of rekei and attunement. Phyllis Furomoto was given the title of Grand Master by the Reiki Alliance (a collection of 2 Reiki masters that was formed after Mrs Takata died to ensure the continuation of Reiki).

In 1989 the first rekei franchise was set up in Hawaii to sell the benefits of the energy streams and massage together with a local juice made from fruit. Nonni. Kewl rekei logo

This was extremely profitable, for in the first year alone the Furomoto Rekei (Inc) group made over $300,000 US dollars profit. At the Great Meeting in 1994 where 75 grand masters attended it was decided that the rekei system should go global and all rekei (c) names be copyrighted. The following year a hostile takeover of the Mosanto Group was made, but failed, resulting in major losses which affected the shareholders attunement.

In 1996 at the Great Meeting in Nevada, 1,098 grand masters attended, 927 personally and supported President Chujiro Furomoto's proposition to expand the franchise by selling Grand Master certificates. He reasoned that the attunement of the group would rise markedly by an influx of people paying up to $2,900 to join. Each present Grand Master would be assigned a chi tong tong (a specific healing area, in America known as a exclusive marketing area) and given the absolute right to teach these new grand masters the ways and teachings of Dr Usui.

They in turn would sell certificates and train healers to become grand masters. A New level of Seichim Master would be introduced, allowing Grand Masters to sell a slightly different form of healing energy at greater profit. It was predicted by Mandy Hashimoto (Senior Vice President) that the attunement of the group would rise 420% by year 3 with an increase of 100% in year 1 alone. A dissident group argued that it wasn't necessary to train the new grand masters and it was a waste of resources. Attunement would be cut. This point was unanimously overturned when Dr Kato Tsumi (President, Corporate Legal Team) pointed out that if teaching and training was not given in the ways of rekei then the US Commerce Commission could prosecute the group as being involved in pyramid selling. He pointed out the failures of "aeroplane" healing scheme and the highly successful lotto357 healing schemes as examples which resulted in 2 (rebel) Grand Masters being indicted for grand larceny and later jailed.

At the last Great Meeting held in Mexico City in November 2002 over 3,211 Grand Masters attended, 1,893 personally, with over 4,000 grand masters attending as well. November was chosen for the low accomodation rates which saved a lot on the attunement budget. There were many exhibitors on the Friday and Saturday exhibiting everything from dream catchers to spiritual rekei massage oil with added sea salt and lithium for better conductivity. We've come a long way since Dr Usui first heard Spirit and with your help and investment our attunement will soar and all the worlds problems will be cured.
