Akshauhinee

Old measurement of armies. In Mahaabhaarat, Kaurav had 11 Akshauhinee army and Paandav had 7 Akshauhinee army. According to Mahaabhaarat its calculation is given like this -
21,870 Chariots,
21,870 Elephants,
109,350 Foot soldiers, and
65,610 Horses all these make up 1 Akshauhinee army.

The following table has been copied from Agni Puraan, ch 366, p 804. In this table, various sections of an army are given with the numbers of horses, elephants and foot soldiers etc.

It explains - "Chakra" and "Aneek" are the synonyms of Senaa (army).

In whichever army there are 1 elephant, 1 chariot, 3 horses and 5 foot soldiers, that is called Patti.
By multiplying Patti's all parts 3 times comes "Senaamukh", the multiplying Senaamukh 3 times comes Gulm and so on, up to Aneekinee. After that one has to multiply Aneekinee by 10. And thus 10 "Anikinee" army makes up 1 Akshauhinee army.

[In this Table a separate section is not made for Chariots, that is why it creates confusion. I have created that section - the 2nd Row, which coincides all numbers with MBH numbers.]
