What is Rudraaksh
Name of a berry dried and used for making rosaries. Indian Jyotish
System (Vaidik astrology) has its medicinal value also. There are
several types of Rudraaksh available used for various kinds of diseases. Their genuineness is questionable.
Shiva Puraan describes
Rudraksh's origin as Lord Shiv's tears. He had been meditating for many
years for the welfare of all creatures. On opening the eyes, hot drops of
tears rolled down and the mother earth gave birth to Rudraaksh trees. Lord
Shiv has many aspects indicated by His 1,008 names. Through the grace of
Lord Siva we are able to come to a state where we stop identifying with
the Relative aspect of ourselves and come to know our true identity as one
with the Absolute. This is the death of death itself. This is immortality.
It is the total destruction of all limitations and all sorrows in our
lives and this miracle can only be brought about by the power of Lord Shiv.
That is why He is called Lord Shiv the Auspicious One. He destroys our
limitations and our fears. He is the very embodiment of total kindness. He
is the Lord of Yogis presiding over Transcendental Knowledge. Om Namah
Shivaaya.
Lord Shiva is also known as Rudra and the Lord of Tears. The meaning of the
name Rudra is traceable to the Vedas and said to be derived from rud (dravayita)
he who drives away sin or suffering.
Eight different aspects of nature are the direct manifestations of Rudra
and they are Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, The Sun, The Moon and the
Life Force. Anything good and auspicious, anything that keeps us healthy
and happy and anything that helps us attain freedom from pain and misery
is Rudra.
Shree Rudram is one of the five scriptural texts chosen by the ancients for
constant repetition and meditation. The five are the Upanishads of one's
own Sakha - The Bhagavad Gita, The Vishnu Sahasranaam, Shree Rudram and
Purush Sooktam. Vaidik Literature states - as by pouring water at the root
of a tree, all its branches are nourished, by pleasing Sri Rudra through
Rudra Jap, all the Devas are pleased. One attains Bhukti and Mukti,
enjoyment of life as well as freedom from the ills of the world by the
chanting of Sri Rudram with devotion
To the Rudra who is in fire, who is in water, who is in trees and plants,
who has entered into the entire universe, to that Rudra let our
salutations go Vaidik Literature shows that the Rudraaksh Bead was created
from the tears of Rudra, the fierce form of Lord Siva thus endowing it
with medicinal and Spiritual Powers. Each of the many types of Rudraaksh
Beads have a governing Deity and specific powers and properties. Two of
the most important rules to be observed in the Asta Aavaran that are the
eight aids or protections are the uttering of the five syllable formula or
Mantra that is Namah Shivaay and the wearing of the Sacred Rudraaksh.
Rudraaksh As Remedy
Rudraaksh is regarded as medicine in Aayur Ved. It is warm and humid in
temperament; some persons regard it cold also. It tastes bitter. It is
used not only to wear on different parts of the body, but it can also be
used as Oral medicine and for besmearing externally. Many doctors, Vaidyas,
scientists and ascetics use it. Some of them are as follows :-
It is the destroyer of worms
and it gives brilliancy to the body. It pacifies Vaat (air), Pitta (bile)
and cough automatically. It is also useful for women in pregnancy.
Rudraaksh is a good medicine for skin diseases. In leprosy of both the
kinds it can be used. It effects as a medicine to cure sores, ringworm,
pimples, boils and it is useful in burns also.
Rudraaksh is the most useful for the patients of blood pressure. It does
not let it go up or down. It keeps the BP normal. For this Rudraaksh
Maalaa should be worn so close that it should touch the heart. It is sure
that it’s wearer can never fall prey to a sudden heart attack, shrinking
of heart or brain hemorrhage. The patient of blood pressure should keep
the five faced Rudraaksh in water filled in a glass vessel throughout the
night and should drink it as soon as he gets up in the morning. By doing
so the person would have normal Blood pressure.
The children, who are mostly sick with fever, should wear three faced
Rudraaksh.
In Chechak (typhus) Rudraaksh seed and black pepper having equal weight
should be ground and sieved through a cloth-sieve. This powder should be
drunk with stale water to cure Chechak.
Cough is cured fully if the powder of ten faced Rudraaksh is rubbed and
licked with milk thrice a day.
Hysteria, Coma, Leucorrhoea and female diseases related to genital organs
can be cured by wearing 3 (three) beads of six faced Rudraaksh.
All the diseases relating to the mind and brain are cured by drinking milk
that is boiled with four faced Rudraaksh. It increases memory also.

(Face) Rudraaksh

paralysis, stroke, heart problems, mental anxiety, eye problem, bone pain,

2-Mukhee (Face) Rudraaksh
It works miraculously for the treatment of diseases like impotency, lack
of concentration, renal failure, stress, anxiety, depression, negative

It is extremely beneficial for treating diseases like asthma, pharynxitis,

Diseases like of stomach ache, stress, skin diseases, anxiety etc are
medically treated by this Rudraaksh.
(9) 9-Mukhee (Face) Rudraaksh
It works as a magical medical remedy for treating unknown diseases.

It functions as a medical blessing for curing diseases like hormonal
imbalance in the body, mental instability, whooping cough etc.

prevented by the use and wearing of this type of Rudraaksh.

rickets, osteoporosis, mental disability, anxiety etc. It is the best for

Diseases of muscle like dystrophies etc can be eliminated by the use of
this type of Rudraaksh.
(14) 14-Mukhee (Face) Rudraaksh
It is very significant for its medical benefits in curing brain related
and many other kinds of diseases.
Rudraksh - a divine
bead to human community provided by the Supreme Power Lord Shiv. The Lord Shiv
from his tear created it. At the time of the universal deluge and destruction of
all things, my eyes were opened for thousand Dev years (one human year = 1 day
of Dev year). In that period, the tears from my eyes dropped in some places of
earth, and produced Rudraaksh trees. This is the message of Lord Shiv to saint
Bujandar (Rudraaksh Jaabaalopanishad). It is a symbol of spirituality and mystic
power. It is having electromagnetic power and it affects both the physical and
logical body of the human being while it is on the body.
Botanical Information
Botanically it is known as Elaeocarpus Ganitrus Roxb. It is nearly spherical in
shape. The clefts on the surface of the beads are called faces. Faces vary from
1 to 38. Rudraaksh trees are mainly found in South Asian Islands, Nepal, India
and Other parts.
Force found in Rudraaksh Beads
Yogee and monks wearing the Rudraaksh beads to acquire distinguish tremendous
quantity of concentration. Apart from this, they get resistance power from this.
It regulates and formulates our conscious, sub-conscious, body and shapes our
overall personality. Though the Rudraaksh are having 1 to 38 faces, the very
common is 5-faceted. But, each type is having its own characteristics. Yogee,
monks and researchers use them for various purposes.
Size of Rudraaksh referred in Upanishad
(1) If the size of the Rudraaksh is like Aamalaa fruit is considered as the best
size.
(2) If it is as the size of Jujubaa fruit is considered as better size.
(3) Below the above sizes are not advisable.
The very good auspicious Rudraaksh is having an inherent hole and a gold line on
it.
Rudraaksh and Planets
Rudraaksh beads enhance the power of planets and it helps to force the focus to
the wearer to give peace and comfort. Significant features of various Rudraaksh
are as follows:
1–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of the Sun. If a person is born in stars like Krittikaa,
U-Phaalgunee or U-Aashaadhaa, he can wear this Rudraaksh. It is also prescribed
for a person having exalted or native
Sun in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be donated to a suitable person for the
horoscopes are having malefic Sun or debilitated Sun. [Genuine 1-Mukhee round
shaped Rudraaksh is impossible to get, better get a 12-Mukhee as it has similar
effects as 1-Mukhee, but without the Vairagya.]
2–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of the Moon. If a person born in stars like Rohinee, Hast,
or Shravan, this can be worn. It is also prescribed for a person having exalted
or native Moon in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be donated to a suitable person
for the horoscopes are having malefic Moon or debilitated Moon.
3–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of Mars. If a person born in stars like Mrigashiraa,
Chitraa or Shravishta, this can be wore. It is also prescribed for a person
having exalted or native Mars in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be donated to a
suitable person for the horoscopes are having malefic mars or debilitated mars.
5–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of Jupiter. If a person born in stars like Punarvasu,
Vishaakhaa or P-proshtapadaa, this can be worn. It is also prescribed for a
person having exalted or native Jupiter in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be
donated to a suitable person for the horoscopes are having malefic Jupiter or
debilitated Jupiter.
7–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of Saturn. If a person born in stars like Pushya,
Anuraadhaa or U-proshtapadaa, this can be worn. It is also prescribed for a
person having exalted or native Saturn in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be
donated to a suitable person for the horoscopes are having malefic Saturn or
debilitated Saturn.
8–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of Raahu. If a person born in stars like Ardraa, Swaati or
Shatabhishaa, this can be worn. It is also prescribed for a person having
exalted or native Raahu in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be donated to a
suitable person for the horoscopes are having malefic Rahu or debilitated Rahu.
13–Faceted Rudraaksh:
It enhances the power of Venus. If a person is born in stars like Bharanee, P-Phaalgunee
or P-Aashaadhaa, he can wear this Rudraaksh. It is also prescribed for a person
having exalted or native Venus in his horoscope. Whereas, it can be donated to a
suitable person for the horoscopes are having malefic Venus or debilitated
Venus.
Maghaa is ruled by Ketu so
9-Mukhee Rudraksha
Revatee is ruled by Mercury so 4-Mukhee Rudraksha
Jyestha is ruled by Mercury so 4-Mukhee Rudraksha
Procedures to be followed to wear Rudraaksh:
The non-defective Rudraaksh are selected and they should be tied by silk thread.
Chanting Mantra for Rudraaksh is "Om Namah Shivaaya".
We can wear the Rudraaksh on a morning, after taking bath and chanting "Om Namah
Shivaaya", a minimum of 108 times.
Any one, irrespective of sex, age, and religious background can wear Rudraaksh.
Women should avoid these beads during the few days of menstruation.
How many facets of
Rudraaksh?
Shiv Puraan mentions only up to 16-Mukhee Rudraaksh. The Late LR Chawduri in his
3 volume "Yantra Tantra and Mantra", has made repeated mention of the existence
of 1-Mukhee to 38-Mukhee, very briefly. But not other details of the Rudraaksh
beyond the 21-Mukhee were given, There are few sites specialized in 22-38-Mukhee
Rudraaksh.
Any Relationship
Between Rudraaksh's Faces and Its Seeds?
Some say that there are as many seeds in a Rudraaksh as many facets are there of
a Rudraaksh. But some differ. Late Sadhu Kali Baba told the test of 1-Mukhee Gol
Daanaa was:
1) It will flow upstream, against the current, in the Ganga;
2) When cow's milk is poured onto the seed it will rise up the flow of milk and
into the milk pot.
Some people think that an X-ray can detect the number of seeds, but Kali Baba
didn't even knew what an X-ray was. He hardly even knew what was electricity.
Kali Baba had an 1-Mukhee Gol Daanaa which he
put into my possession for a week in 1976 It was genuine 1-Mukhee (although we
didn't apply the tests mentioned by Baba).
