Yagya things flowed away as she was flowing, so in rage he filled Gangaa's water in his Kamandal.
Later he
released it from his ears at the request of Devtaa. Since then Gangaa became his daughter and
was also called Jaahnavee.
--[Aangiras, p 141] says, "It appeears that Jahnu was the first Aarya king to
arrive and settle on the banks of River Gangaa, even before Bhageerath, hence
Gangaa earned the name of Jaahnavee. He founded the Kaanyakubj kingdom."

--Once Renukaa went to fetch some waterr from a River for her husband's worship.
There she found Gandharv Raaj playing with his wives in the river. She watched
them playing for quite some time and wished for a young husband. She overtook
her thoughts and soon came back home. But she was late for Rishi's worship. Rishi
knew her mental sin so he got very angry and asked all sons to behead their
mother. But nobody did so except Parashuraam. So he asked Parashuraam to behead
his brothers also. He did that also. Jamadagni got very pleased with Parashuraam,
he asked him to ask for any Var. He immediately asked their life back and requested
to incorporate them in the family. He asked that they should not remember this
incident. He did so. This story appears in Bhaagvat Puraan and MBH, and not in
the earlier Padm Puraan which deals with the life of Parashuraam in much greater
detail.
--It is part of the overwhelming evidennce that MBH and Bhaagvat have been
interpolated by innumerable unworthy contributors who have added cheap and
worthless stories defiling the character of sages. HOw could Rishi Jamadagni
have earned the power of bringing back to life a dead person if he was so
mercurial and violent as to order his son to kill his own wife for a wrong
reason. And if Parashuraam was a Rishi, ho could he have obeyed his father
blindly without saying a word in protest. [Aangiras, p 139]
--Once King Arjun of Haihaya Vansh saw the Divine cow with him. He got very
impressed with her so he asked him to give her to him, but Jamadagni said, "She
is my Yagya cow and fulfills all my Yagya needs. I cannot giver her to you."
Arjun tried to take her by force, but she produced a huge army from her body and
saved herself. Later Arjun killed him and took his head. Parashuraam killed him,
his army, and children, brought his head back and brought him to life. He killed

killing.

Puraan, 5/37] says that Kashyap Jee and Diti had several sons as Asur and
gives their names like this - Makar, Hayagreev, Hiranyaaksh, Hiranyakashyap,
Jambh, Maya etc.
[Now if Jambh was the
son of Kashyap and Diti; and he married his daughter to Hiranyakashyap, then
does it mean that he married his daughter to his brother? or Kayaadhu was
married to her uncle?]

Married to - Vapushtamaa (Daughter of Kaashee King Swarn Varmaa)
Children - 2 sons - Shataaneek and Shankukarn
--He had three brothers - Ugrasen, Bheeemsen, and Shrutsen
--He is famous for his Sarp Yagya. He ddid a Sarp Yagya because of the hate to Takshak, as he bit his father
Pareekshit at Shringee Rishi's Shaap. So all snakes started falling in the Yagya
fire with the effect of Mantra, Takshak got afraid and coiled around the leg of Indra's throne. When
Janamejaya didn't see Takshak falling in Yagya's Kund, his Braahman called Indra to fall in the
fire, so Indra also started falling in the sacrificial fire along with his throne. Then
Brahmaa Jee intervened and Janamejaya stopped his Yagya. (MBH,
0/10) says that Rishi Aasteek saved Naag and Takshak from dying.
--(Aangiras, p 138) says he was the eneemy of Naag race, a non-Arya tribe with
vast empire at that time. Later on a story based on the other meaning of Naag
(Serpent) was created.
JARAASANDH -
King of Magadh (Son of Brihadrath)
Married to - nnn
Children - 2 sons - Sahadev and Jayatsen
2 daughters - Asti and Praapti (both married to Kans)
1 daughter more* (Jaraasandhaa)
--Was very mighty like Bheem, but he allso could not defeat Chaanoor - Kans'
wrestler.
--There is an interesting story about hhis birth. His father was childless, so he
went to a Rishi named Chand Kaushik and asked for a son. The Rishi gave him a
mango to give it to his queen. He had
two queens and he loved them both equally so he cut the fruit in half and gave
it to both of his wives. At appropriate time they both gave birth to a child but
both delivered half body. Both queens got frightened seeing the half body of a
child so they threw those half bodies outside
the palace. There came a Jaraa Raakshasee who picked them up with the intention
of eating them but joined them in a playful mood. Life came to the pieces and
the child was born. She got very happy, took him to her house and brought him up
as her own child. Because he was joined and brought alive by Jaraa, he was named as Jaraa+Sandh
--When Yudhishthir did his Raajsooya Yaagya, it was necessary either to defeat
him or kill him, because he was very mighty. Only Bheem could do it. Krishn, Arjun and Bheem went to him
in disguise of Braahman and
asked for a dual fight with any one of them in alms. He chose Bheem for fighting and
Bheem killed him. It was not easy to kill him. Krishn helped Bheem in killing
him. He made a sign to him by a tearing a straw apart and throw its both
parts on opposite sides. By tearing his body thus and throwing them in
the opposite direction only Bheem could kill him, otherwise his both
parts joined each other repeatedly and he got alive as before as he came to life
when Jaraa joined him, if he threw them in the same direction. After his death, Krishn installed
his son Sahadev as Magadh's king.
--[MBH, 15/1] says that "daughter of Jaraasandh used
to wait upon Gaandhaaree", so it seems that he had another daughter,
other than Asti and Praapti (married to Kans), who was married in Kaurav family. In the same
[MBH, 15/25] says that she was known as Jaraasandhaa and she was the wife of Bheem
(maybe Dhritraashtra's son].
--[Agni Puraan, 28]
says that Brihadrath had 7 sons from Girikaa from the part of Vasu
Uparichar. Kushaagra's son was Vrishabh, Vrishabh's son was Satyahit,
Satyahit's son was Sudhanvaa, Sudhanvaa's son was Oorj, Oorj's son was
Sambhav and Sambahav's son was Jaraasandh.

Karn.
JATAAYU -

Married to - nnn
Children - 2 sons - Karnikaar and Shatgaamee
--He met Raam while He was in exile. Hee fought with Raavan when he was taking
Seetaa to Lankaa. He was badly wounded while fighting with him. He died after he
told the incident to Raam. Raam performed his last rites according to Ved.
JAYA and VIJAYA -
Gatekeepers of Vishnu
--Once, when they were guarding the dooor of Vishnu's palace, Sanakaadi Muni
came to see Vishnu. They did not know them, so they did not allow them to enter
the palace. At this they got angry and gave them Shaap that, "Be Raakshas, take birth on
Prithvi three times." At this they requested Vishnu that when they take birth on Prithvi
as Raakshas, they should not forget their Gyaan and they should be killed by His
own hands. Vishnu said, "So be it." Thus they were born on Prithvi
three times - once as Hiranyaaksh
and Hiranyakashyap in Sat Yug; second time as Raavan and Kumbhkarn in Tretaa Yug and
third time as Shishupaal and Dantvakra in Dwaapar Yug. They were killed by
Bhagavaan's hands - Varaah Bhagavaan,
Nrasinh Bhagavaan, Raam and Krishn respectively.
--Their story is given in Tulasee's Maaanas, but not in Vaalmeeki's Raamaayan.
Padm Puraan also cites their reference in the context of Nrasinh [5/38],
Raam [5/40] and Krishn
Avataar
JAYADRATH -
King of Sindhu Desh (Son of Vriddhkshatra)
Married to - Dushalaa (Daughter of Dhritraashtra and Gaandhaaree, Sister of Duryodhan)
Children - 1 son - Surath
--Once Jayadrath touched the feet of
his father. Pleased with him, his father gave him a Var that if whosoever will
fell your head on the ground his head will break in thousand pieces. So when
Arjun vowed to kill Jayadrath because of the killing of his son Abhimanyu, Krishn suggested Arjun that he
should kill him in this way that his head should fall in his father's lap. Arjun
did so. His father was doing Tapasyaa when his head fell in his lap. As he
opened his eyes he got afraid of seeing a head in his lap and got up. As he got
up, the head fell on the ground and his father died immediately. Thus Arjun
killed both father and son with one arrow.
--Once, when Paandav were in exile, theey left Draupadee alone at home. Jayadrath
was passing by, he abducted her. When Pandav returned, both Arjun and Bheem
followed them and caught them in time. Bheem caught him
and shaved his head leaving five flocks. Because of shame he did not go home, nor to Duryodhan, rather he went for Tapasyaa for Shiv. When Shiv asked him to ask for
Var, he asked that he should be able to kill Paandav. Shiv said "It is
impossible to kill them, but I can give you another Var that in war you will be able to check
four Paandav only excluding Arjun and Krishn." Reluctantly he accepted
that, so on the day of Abhimanyu Vadh, the 13th day of the MBH war, since Arjun and Krishn were not there, he
was able to check four Paandav, and others killed Abhimanyu.
--Arjun killed him on the 14th day of MBH
war.
JAYANT - Son of Indra
and Indraanee
Married to - nnn
Children - nnn
--He has one sister - Jayantee and two brothers - Rishabh and Meedhvaan.
--In Raam's times, when they were in exxile, according to Maanas, he assumed the
form of a crow and hit Seetaa's feet with his beak and flew away. Raam picked a
broom stick (Seenk) and aimed at him treating it as an arrow. Now Jayant got
frightened and ran away. The arrow followed him wherever he went. He got so much
frightened seeing this that he went in all the three Lok and asked help of
Brahmaa, Shiv, his own father, but they clearly showed their helplessness
saying, "This is Shree Raam's arrow, nobody can save you except Shree Raam
Himself, so go to Him only and pray Him." At last he had to come back to Raam,
and asked His forgiveness. Shree Raam forgave him but pierced his left eye with
that arrow. Since then crows can see from one eye only.
