RAADHAA - Wife of Adhirath

--Adhirath was the Saarathee of Dhritraashhtra. He did not have any child of his own. When Kuntee flowed her first-born son, Karn, he picked him up and brought him up as their own. It is said that later they had several sons of their own. Karn was called Raadheya because of being Raadhaa;s son.

RAADHAA
According to Aangiras (p 312) Raadhaa is a short name of Rukminee used by her father, Vrishbhaanu Bheeshmak who left Vrindaa van to become the King of Vidarbh. Raadhaa again met Krishn in Saandeepani school where the two fell in love and later got married. She is considered the incarnation of Lakshmee.

--His name was Sainhkeya, because of his mmother Sinhikaa, but he was known as Raahu.
--[2Padm Puraan, 1Srishti] says that Sinhiikaa had 13 sons, but Raahu's name has been mentioned separately, which means that she had 14 sons not 13.
--Raahu’s mother Sinhikaa (also known as SSinhitaa) was the daughter of Hiranyakashyap. There are several brothers to Raahu - Shalya, Nabh, Vaataapi, Ilval and Namuchi etc. It is also believed that Raahu is the eldest of his 100 brothers. He also has a sister by name Maahishmatee. A mine of information about Raahu is available in Brahm-Vaivart Puraan, Bhaagvat Puraan, Mahaabhaarat, Matsya Puraan, Rig Ved and Vishnu Puraan.
--Killed by Mohinee Avataar at the time off Saagar Manthan, but not killed actually because he drank Amrit, so his body was divided in two parts - head and trunk. Head was called Raahu and his trunk was named Ketu. When Soorya and Chandramaa complained about Raahu that he had drank Amrit, he had already taken a gulp of Amrit. That is why as soon as Vishnu cut his neck by His Chakra, he did not die, rather his both parts lived. His head part remained as Raahu and his trunk became Ketu (tail). Since Soorya and Chandramaa complained about him, he always seeks the opportunity to eat them. He gets these chances on a Full Moon day to eat Chandramaa and New Moon Day to eat Soorya Dev. That is why the two eclipses, Lunar and Solar, happen on these days. In the Nav Graha worship they are worshipped as two Graha (planets).

--He ruled Ayodhya for 11,000 years. His bbow's name was Kodand.
--He killed Taadakaa, Subaahu, Maareech, VViraadh, Kabandh, Khar, Dooshan, Trishiraa, Raavan, Kumbhkarn,  etc Raakshas. He killed Baali too - Sugreev's brother.
--He is known by Dasharath-nandan, Jaanakeeenaath, Kaushalyaa-nandan, Kosalaadheesh, Raaghav, Raghunaath, like names also.

RAAVAN - Raakshas, Son of Maharshi Vishravaa and Kaikasee (Keshinee, daughter of Raakshas Sumaalee)

--Had two brothers - Kumbhkarn and Vibheesshan and a sister Shoorpanakhaa.
--Maharshi Vishravaa gave him the name Dasshagreev, and Raavan was his nick name which he got at the time he lifted Kailaash Parvat on his shoulders, and Shiv pressed it by the tip of his little toe. He cried and prayed Shiv for a long time, then Shiv gave this name to him because he "Rooyaa" (wept) for a long time. Since then he is popularly known from this name only. He gave him a Divine sword also, named Chandrahaas.
--His other names are - Dashaanan, Dashaggreev, Dashakandhar, Dashakandh, Dashamukh,
--"Dandak" written by him is stiill available in that name.
--The Mantra Shaastra says - "Raam paatneem vansthaanam nimaaya iti Raavanaah" means - one who abducted Raam's wife from woodlands.
--He had won Trilok, this is true, but he was defeated by Baali (Sugreev's brother), Sahastraarjun, and Bali (Prahlaad's grandson who donated the whole Trilok to Vaaman Bhagavaan).
--He had six Shaap on his head, because off them he was killed in this way.
--According to Aangiras (p 317) his extra nine heads represented nine sins with which he was afflicted, they were - (1) anger, (2) arrogance, (3) cruelty, (4) dishonesty, (5) hypocrisy, (6) lust, (7) malice, (8) revengefulness, and (9) lack of faith in God. When Shree Raam destroyed the heads of Raavan He destroyed the evils of human beings that these heads represented and showed mankind that they should get rid of these evils.

--Raghu was born in Insjwaaku Vansh, but hhe was so powerful that after him his descendents were known by his name - Raghu Vansh. Among all kings in his line of lineage, he was very famous for keeping his words, that is why it is known as "Raghu-kul Reeti Sadaa Chali Aayee, Praam Jaayen par Vachan na Jaayee."

--Kakudmee had one daughter Revatee who waas married to Balaraam.
--[Agni Puraan, 26] says that Raivat was the son of Rev (son of Aanart, grandson of Sharyaati), thus he was the great grandson of Sharyaati, and Kakudmee was his other name. Rev had 100 sons, among whom Raivat or Kakudmee was his eldest son. Once Raivat went to Brahmaa Jee with his daughter Revatee and waited for Brahmaa Jee as he was listening to music. While Bhaagvat Puraan says that Raivat was the son of Aanart (son of Sharyaati), and Kakudmee was the son of Raivat, and Revatee was the daughter of Kakudmee. Revatee was married to Balaraam Jee.
[It means that Revatee was Raivat's daughter.]

--She had a sister too - Vajrajwaalaa (Marrried to Kumbhkarn - Son of Vishravaa and Kaikasee, Brother of Raavan)
--It is said that she incarnated as Pootannaa in Dwaapar Yug. At that time she was the Dhaaya (who breastfeeds her milk in the absence of the child's mother's milk) of Kans. When she saw Vaaman Bhagavaan in her father's house, she had a desire that she should also have such a beautiful child and breastfeed him. But when she saw His Viraat Roop, she wished she would kill Him if he were her son. Bhagavaan heard her both wishes and fulfilled them in her next life. She breastfed Him with love and tried to kill Him too. After Krishn killed her, He gave her the status of His mother.

--Once Renukaa went to fetch some water frrom a River for her husband's worship. There she found Gandharv Raaj playing with his wives in the river. She watched them playing for quite some time and wished for a young husband. Then she overtook her thoughts and soon came back home. But she was late for Rishi's worship. Rishi knew her mental sin by his Yog power so he got very angry and asked his all sons to behead their mother. But nobody did so except Parashuraam. So he asked Parashuraam to behead his brothers also. He did that also. Jamadagni got very pleased with Parashuraam, he asked him to ask for any Var. He immediately asked their life, requested to incorporate them in the family, and that they should not remember that he killed them. He did so.

RIBHU - Son of Brahmaa
--[Padm Puraan, 5/32] says that Vishnu gave Var to Mrigshring Muni that in next life he would be born as Brahmaa's son Ribhu and would discourse on Vedaant to Nidaagh. The same is confirmed in [Padm Puraan, 5/34] too.

--[Aangiras, p 89] Three brothers mentioneed in Rig Ved, who through their continuous performance of virtuous works reached perfection and hence were elevated to Divine status in the eyes of men.

--He gave his middle son to king Ambareeshh as his Yagya animal. Then he was saved by his Maamaa Vishwaamitra.

RIKSH RAAJ - Vaanar, Son of Brahmaa

--Once Brahmaa was doing Tapasyaa on Sumerru Parvat. Two drops of tears fell from his eyes. He took them in his hands and wiped his hand from his body. He shook his hand after wiping it from his body, so one drop fell on the ground. A Vaanar was born from that drop. He asked that Vaanar to stay on that mountain saying that after some time it would be good for him.
--Once Riksh Raaj got thirsty, so he went to a pond to drink water. As he bent down to drink water he saw his shadow in the water. He thought he was some enemy of his, so he entered the pond to kill him. As he entered the pond, he himself had become a beautiful female. By chance Soorya and Indra were passing through that side. They saw her and got attracted to her. Then both Indra and Soorya produced two sons from her - Baali and Sugreev. After producing these sons she again became male.

--He has one sister - Jayantee and two broothers - Jayant and Meedhvaan.

RISHABH - King
--[Aangiras, p 80] A king who gave his kinngdom to his son and went for meditation. Bhaagvat Puraan connects him to the establishment of Jain religion. Truly the name of the first Jain Teerthankar was Rishabh.

RISHYASHRING - Rishi, Son of Vibhaandak Muni, Grandson of Kashyap
Married to - Shaantaa (Daughter of King Rompaad)

--It is said about his birth that he was bborn from a deer and with a horn on the crown of his forehead, that is why he was called Rishya-Shring, means peak among Rishi.
--He was a perfect Brahmchaaree for some ttime. He even didn't know that there was anything like woman in the world, because his father kept him in a lonely place. Once there was no rain in king Rompaad's kingdom. People started dying with hunger, then his ministers suggested that if Rishyashring Muni comes in his kingdom, it will rain. How to bring him in the kingdom? They sent some courtesans to bring him there and as he came within the boundary of the kingdom, it rained. Then the king married his daughter Shantaa to him.
--He did Yagya for king Dasharath also to get sons, and he got four sons - Raam, Lakshman, Bharat ans Shatrughn.

RITUPARN - King of Soorya Vansh, Great Grandson of Ambareesh

--When Nal left Damayantee alone in forestt, he came to Rituparn and served him as his charioteer. Rituparn taught him dice game techniques in exchange of learning the art of driving chariot from Nal.

--Daksh had 60 daughters. Out of 60 daughtters, he married his 27 daughters to Chandramaa and asked him to love all of them equally. But Chandramaa loved her most. So his all other daughters complained about this to their father. Daksh threatened him but he did not listen to him, so he gave Chandramaa Shaap -
"Because you did not love my all daughters equally in spite of my requesting and warning, you will be suffering from tuberculosis." So he had tuberculosis. Later he pleased Daksh Jee and got the Var of increasing Kalaa in Shukla Paksh and decreasing Kalaa in Krishn Paksh. But he could not have any child from his 27 wives.

ROMHARSHAN - Popularly known as Soot Jee

--Romharshan was from Soot caste, still Ved Vyaas Jee chose him as his dear disciple. He taught him Puraan to impart to others.
--His son Ugrashravaa also told many stories to many Muni, and he was also popularly known as Soot Jee.
--[Agni Puraan, 25] says that he had 6 disciples - Sumati, Agnivarchaa, Mitrayu, Shinshpaayan, Kritvratand Saavarni. Shinshpaayan etc created Puraan etc Sanhitaa.

ROMPAAD - King of Ang Desh

--His name was Chitrarath.
--Rompaad didn't have any child, so his frriend Dashrath (Raam's father) gave him his daughter Shaantaa.
--Once there was no rain in Rompaad's kinggdom. People started dying with hunger, then his ministers suggested that if Rishyashring Muni comes in his kingdom, it will rain. How to bring him in the kingdom? They sent some courtesans to bring him there and as he came within the boundary of the kingdom, it rained. Then the king married his daughter Shaantaa to him.
--Later Rishyashring did a Yagya for Rompaaad to get a son and he did get a son.

--Killed by Bhagdatt on 12th day of the waar. (Drone, 23).

RUDRA
--How Rudra were born? According to Bhhaagvat Puraan, there are 11 Rudra. When Brahmaa Jee's own children, Sanakaadi Muni, refused to create any kind of Creation, He got very angry, and he got so angry that a red and blue child came out of the center of his eyebrows. He was the Poorvaj (ancestor) of Devtaa - Bhav (Rudra). He cried first then asked his name and his dwelling place. Brahmaa Jee said - "Because you started crying as soon as you were born, you will be called as Rudra and I have already created eleven places for you to live - Hriday (heart), Indriyaan, Praan, Sky, Air, Fire, Water, Prithvi, Sun, mind and Tap. You will be called with these 11 names - (1) Manyu, (2) Manu, (3) Mahinas, (4) Mahaan, (5) Shiv, (6) Ritdhwaj, (7)  Ugraretaa, (8) Bhav, (9) Kaal, (10) Vaamdev, and (11) Dhritvrat; and (1) Dhee, (2) Vritti, (3) Ushanaa, (4) Umaa, (5) Niyut, (6) Sarpi, (7) Ilaa, (8) Ambikaa, (9) Iraavatee, (10) Sudhaa and (11) Deekshaa will be your 11 wives. You accept these names, dwelling places and wives and start producing people (Prajaa) because you are the Prajaapati (Swaamee of people). [Thus they are 11 Rudra with their 11 wives living in 11 places]
--How Rudra were born? According to Padm Puraan, 1/23 "After Vishnu killed Madhu and Kaitabh Daitya, Brahmaa Jee started doing Tap but he didn't like to be alone, so he created a woman from his half body. She could take any kind of form as she liked. Then he produced 10 sons who became famous Prajaapati and Yogee; and five women - Lakshmee, Saadhyaa, Vishweshaa, Devee, and Saraswatee; and he gave these women to Dharm. The woman who appeared from Brahmaa's half body, she came to Brahmaa Jee in the form of Surabhi. Brahmaa Jee had sexual relationship with her and she had 11 sons who ran away crying. Because of crying and running they were called Rudra.
--There are 11 Rudra - (1) Har, (2) Bahurooop, (3) Tryambak, (4) Aparaajit, (5) Vrishaakapi, (6) Shambhu, (7) Kapardee, (8) Raivat, (9) Mrigyaadh, (10) Sharv, and (11) Kapaalee - these are 11 Rudra. Hundreds of such Rudra are famous.
--[MBH, 1/66] says that "It is known that Brahmaa had six Maanas Putra. There was an other one named Sthaanu. He had 11 sons. They were (1) Mrigvyaadh, (2) Sarp, (3) Nirriti, (4) Ajaikpaad, (5) Ahirbudhnya, (6) Pinaakee, (7) Dahan, (8) Eeshwar, (9) Kapaalee, (10) Sthaanu, and (11) Bharg. They are called 11 Rudra.
--[Agni Puraan, 7] 11 Rudra were the sons of Kashyap and Surabhi and gives their names as (1) Har, (2) Bahuroop, (3) Tryambak, (4) Aparaajit, (5) Vrishaakapi, (6) Shambhu, (7) Kapardee, (8) Raivat, (9) Mrigyaadh, (10) Sharv, and (11) Kapaalee - these are 11 Rudra. Hundreds of such Rudra are famous..
--11 Rudra have 840 million (84 Crore) chiildren and gives their names like this - (1) Har, (2) Bahuroop, (3) Tryambak, (4)) Aparaajit, (5) Vrishaakapi, (6) Shambhu, (7) Kapardee, (8) Raivat, (9) Mrigvyaadh, (10) Sarp, (11) Kapaalee - these 11 Rudra are chief Rudra.

RUKMBAAHU - Prince, Son of Bheeshmak of Vidarbh Desh

--He was five brothers and one sister - Rukmee, Rukmrath, Rukmbaahu, Rukmesh and Rukmmaalee; and sister Rukminee.

RUKMEE - Prince of Vidarbh Desh, Son of Bheeshmak

Children - 1 daughter - Rukmvatee (Married to Rukminee's son Pradyumn)
                1 son - name is not given (whose daughter was married to Rukminee's grandson)
--He had four brothers - Rukmrath, Rukmbaahu, Rukmesh and Rukmaaalee; and one sister Rukminee. He wanted to marry his sister to Shishupaal but Rukminee wanted to marry Krishn. So Krishn kidnapped her on her request.
--After he was defeated by Krishn, when he fought with Him while He was kidnapping his sister Rukminee, he did not go to his father's city, he lived in Bhojkat city. Later he married his daughter Rukmvatee to Rukminee's son Pradyumn and granddaughter to Rukminee's grandson, Pradyumn's son Aniruddh.

--He was five brothers and one sister - Rukmee, Rukmrath, Rukmbaahu, Rukmesh and Rukmmaalee; and sister Rukminee.

--Krishn's 8 wives were Rukminee (Daughterr of Bheeshmak), Satyabhaamaa (Daughter of Satraajit), Satyaa (Daughter of Nagnjit), Jaambvatee (Daughter of Jaambvaan),  Bhadraa (princess of Kaikaya Desh), Lakshmanaa, Mitravrindaa, and  Kaalindee.
--[Vishnu Puraan, 5/10] lists the following names of her children thus - 11 sons - (1) Pradyumn, (2) Chaarudeshn, (3) Sudeshn, (4) Veeryavaan, (5) Chaarudeh, (6) Sushen, (7) Chaarugupt, (8) Bhadrachaaru, (9) Chaaruvind, (10) Suchaaru, and (11) Chaaru, and a daughter named Chaarumatee. While [Bhaagvat Puraan, 10/u9] lists only 10 sons and one daughter - (1) Pradyumn, (2) Chaarudeshn, (3) Sudeshn, (4) Chaarudeh, (5) Suchaaru, (6) Chaarugupt, (7) Bhadrachaaru, (8) Chaaruchandra, (9) Vichaaru, and (10) Chaaru.
--According to Aangiras (p 318) she was thhe daughter of Bheeshmak and she was fondly called Raadhaa by him. On another page (p 312) he says that Raadhaa was Rukminee's short name used by her father, Vrishbhaanu Bheeshmak who left Vrindaa Van to become the King of Vidarbh. Raadhaa again met Krishn in Saandeepani school where the two fell in love and later got married. She is considered the incarnation of Lakshmee.
