RentakAsia Officially Launched at MCities Live!

The official launching of RentakAsia at MCities Live! in KL Plaza on Aug. 8 was a colorful affair attended by VIPs, pop stars, invited guests and members of the print, TV and online media.

The launching ceremony was officiated by Malaysia Airports Berhad Chairman Tan Sri Dato' Haji Basir Bin Ismail (picture shows him launching RentakAsia with George G. Lourdes).

"RentakAsia is designed to bring about the convergence of music, the arts and culture in a unique way," RentakAsia.Com Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Officer George G. Lourdes said at the event.

"It synergizes entertainment as part of the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix 2000" and is "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all to experience music, food, culture and the arts," he added.

After the launching, emceed by RentakAsia PR Consultant Arianna Teoh, there was an impromptu performance by a group of young percussionists led by rhythm ace Steve Thornton. Nine-year-old Arthur Kam, one of Thornton's students, stole the show with an impressive display of drum dexterity.

Singapore's world music/rock star Ramli Sarip, who is expected to lead the Rentak All-Star Band at the festival, also performed a brief acoustic set with guitarist Man Kidal.

Among the other personalities who graced the function were MCities.Com Group CEO Paul Ting, MCities.Com CEO K.T. Leong, MyETutor.com CEO Benjamin Foo and 1800Assist CEO Michael Soh.

RentakAsia, the mega music-food-arts festival, will be held at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex on Oct. 20-21, 2000.
