Being Excused from Physical Education - If the student is well enough to come to school then he/she is expected to participate in class. As is stated in the parent handbook, the student needs to have a note from the doctor to be excused from class. The physical education teacher will accept a note from home excusing the child from class if the child is recovering from an illness. This excuse is only accepted for a reasonable amount of time (1 or 2 classes). If the child becomes injured while in school, the school nurse will write a note to the physical education teacher excusing him/her from class.
Behavior - Children are expected to show respect for their teachers, classmates and school property. Any form of teasing, bullying, harrassment or fighting will not be tolerated. While in physical education class students are expected to participate by following directions and staying on task.
Grading - Grades for children in grades K - 4 are determined be participation and meeting student outcomes. In addition, children in grades 5 and 6 may be required to do a limited amount of homework and take short quizzes.
Physical Best - Physical
Best is a fitness program for grades K -6. Children in grades
3 -6 are given the Fitnessgram twice a year. This fitness
test stresses improvement. Students are encouraged not to compare
thier level of fitness to others. Instead, they should set
goals to improve their own level of fitness. Fitness concepts and ways
to improve and maintain fitness are taught during the year. A computer
printout of Fitnessgram results will go home at the beginning
of the school year.
