HUMAN RESPIRATION
About the Work:
The Doctoral Thesis, presented to the Faculty of Medicine
of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, and defended in the year of 1847, proves,
with basis on practical experiences, the tesis that Human Respiration
is a physico-chemical phenomenon, instead of a physiological one, made
as an exchange of gases, which takes place in the lungs!!!... A great
number of references is made to scientists now famous in the History.
At this time the Science was still opening the veil that surrounded the
knowledge about most of the phenomenons, in Physics, in Chemistry and
in Biology, today considered as a trivial matter. The prove is made in
a didactic manner, clear and ordered.

About the Author:
The Doctor (Medical) Simão da Cunha Pereira was
born at Vila do Príncipe [Prince Town] (nowadays city of Serro),
Province of Minas Gerais, Brazil, about 1822, where supposedly he was
baptized. He died at the city of Serro, MG, Brazil, on 13th/Oct/1862,
where he was buried. He entered at the Faculty of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro,
RJ, Brazil, having attended in the period of 1842-1847. He exerted many
public offices at the local, regional and national levels, having beeing
elected as substitute deputy to the General House of Deputies of the Empire
and deputy to the Provincial Legislative Assembly of MG, Brazil, of which
he was President in the last legislature. He practised Medicine at his
homeland, where he always lived.
