REY ADEL'S POETRY
THE SADDEST WORDS

If I could not change the world
     I rather not change me.
I might believe in fate
     But I possess free will.
The choice is mine to live at best;
Still it's my doing if I do less.
     And my doing it great.

If I contend God let me live
Because I could withstand the tests
I rather not propose that
I aim to undergo the pangs of life
But still savor its myriad beauty.
     Excellence is God's proof
     Man is His greatest creation.

If I emphasize that man lives by bread
     I rather not be emphatic,
I am to toil and sweat to eat
For I have my strength and skills.
My wisdom shall guide me
To survive a taste of famine.
To taste survival of the fittest.

If I rationalize that intellect is inborn
     I rather not depart reality.
Knowledge can be learned and acquired,
     Experience is a great facilitator.
Abilities improve with time.
     Weakness converts to virility.
     Humor is uttered wisdom.

If I ponder the threat of nuclear war
I rather not think of that.
For when it happens, I know not
If I still'd be here to recollect
What the world was before it.
But I rather live in a siege of war
Than die in a peaceful colony.
