~~ISIS~~

Name: The familiar Isis is the Greek form to Her Egyptian name- Aset. Aset literally means Throne. She is depicted wearing a headress with a vulture and a throne representing Her name above it. Later She is shown wearing the solar disk and horns which were originally a symbol of Hathor.

Symbols: teit ( the Knot of Isis), scorpion, throne, and the kite.

Countries: Egypt was Her country exclusivly for the first 2000 years but her popularity spread throughout Africa, Middle East, and to the far reaches of Europe.

Family: She is the daughter of Geb the earth God and Nut the sky Goddess. Her siblings are sisiter Nephthys and brothers Set, Horus the Elder, and Osiris. Osiris was also Her Husband. She is mother of Horus the Child.

Myths: Isis and Osiris, Isis and the seven scorpions, and The secret name of Ra.

Herstory: Isis is the greatest Goddess Egypt has ever known. She is also unparalelled as a deity as she is considered the most complete Goddess; encompassing so many aspects all at once. She is well over 3000 years old but her exact origins are unknown. Isis was said to be the purest example of a loving wife and mother who cared for every creature that walked the land. She was compassionate and generous to all who appealed to Her for aid. She is shown in sculptures suckling her child Horus. It is believd that many of Her traits were taken on by the Christian Mary, mother of Jesus. She is also a classic “creator/ destroyer” Goddess with Her twin sister Nyphthys as her darker aspect. Her relationship with Her consort Osiris is that of a “Seasonally dying God” cycle. She was also known as a great magician. She created the first cobra using its venom to trick Ra into revealing his secret name. This bestowed on Isis limitless power. She used Her magick to bring Her murdered husband back to life, re-esembling his body, and fashioning him a new phallus.

Correspondences:Isis is a Goddess of fertilty, motherhood, childbirth, love, marriage, healing, magick, divination, animals, beauty, the Moon. She is associated with numerous Goddess throughout the world. It is said She is as “ Queenly as Hera, mystic and frucifying as Demeter, comely as Aphrodite, victorious as Athena, and pure as Artemis, she embraces within her the functions of all”. She is associated with water, silver, scorpions, lions, eagles, snakes, rams, unicorns, the Sphinx, the virgin, man, and woman. Her plants are: cypress, opium poppy, olive, lotus, tigerlily, and all water plants. Gemstones are: ruby, sapphire, pearl, amethyst, peridot, beryl, and aquamarine. Days of honor are all Wednesdays and Fridays, 1st and 4th of the New Moon (waxing).
