Moon Dance
The Story of Moon Dance
Moon Dance was created when Carefree
records wanted me to write more of a softer, new age type feel. This was while
Send Angels was making it's rounds with other record companies. I sent them the
first five songs and they loved it. By this time we made the decision to stay
with Damage Records. When the radio stations received the new album they all
loved the song "Christina's home". Some pop stations were even
starting to play the CD such as Eagle Radio! the radio manager of Eagle Radio
said that he believed it was one of the best artist to come out of Kansas and
also said that his kids love the album and they listened to it every night
before going to sleep. Other critiques wrote that it was an album of moods. Moon
Dance became very successful and followed Send Angels with sales.
Mid-West-Exposure, This song starts out with a violin and a viola,
starting the melody, electric guitar comes in with a whammy pedal then adds to
the rhythm. Second part of the song is a classical guitar, with strings a bass.
Richard Falcon: Violin, Viola, String arrangement, acoustic
guitar, electric guitar, bass, percussions.
See The Light. This song uses triad chords in the guitar with a flute.
Then the alto sax takes over the melody, a lot of layering of guitar, keyboard,
bass and drums. The song continues to build until the flute comes back in.
My favorite part is when the electric guitar takes over. Since I am a guitar
player. Richard Falcon: Acoustic guitar, bass, keyboards,
electric guitar, percussions.
Mystical Nights, I like how the piano starts the melody then the
violin with the guitar takes it over while playing unison with the piano. The
background is done with a twelve string guitar. this is another song were the
drums are recorded, looped, and processed through a techno effect. . 12string
guitar, electric guitar, Piano, violin, bass, programmed percussions.
African Wind, Notice the flying guitar at the beginning and me trying
to keep up on the bass. Mostly keyboards in the background. Guitar takes the
melody through out the song until the drums kick in and then the flute takes
over. At one part you hear the flute come in. I made a mistake and then after
hearing it I decided that I liked a hint of the flute at the beginning so I left
it. This was the other favorite with radio stations including Radio
Kansas. Richard Falcon: Keyboard, guitar, flute,
percussions, bass.
Into The Secret Garden, This is my new age song. I wrote it inspired
by Alle Craig's art work the Secret Garden paintings. Sampled bongo's sand
claves. Guitar is playing a really hard cord progression even though it doesn't
sound it. I like putting melodies together to see what I get out of them, like
the marimbas and the guitar. Tom work is also my own, triggered through a
keyboard sound. Richard Falcon: percussions, marimbas,
keyboard, guitar, flute, bass.
The Last Insight is inspired by the Celestine Prophecies. A not so
normal arpeggio starts out with the violin. The bass actual does a normal
arpeggio which really fits nice with the guitar. Kind of dark sounding with an
inspiration of hope, sort of like the book. Richard
Falcon: guitar, bass, violin, String arrangement, percussions.
The Kiss And The Chase, The beginning features back ground noise by my
daughter who was about five at the time. she was crumbling up paper during the
recording of the acoustic guitar. She was far away but because of condenser
microphones, it can pick up the whole room. The guitar has the lead until we go
into the electric guitar. Using the Wammy pedal with harmony the electric has a
very deep dark sound. Also in use is the RSS effect which makes the electric
guitar sound like it is beside you, using normal speakers! Richard
Falcon: Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Keyboards, percussions, bass.
Birds of Desire Taken from the idea of John Mclaughlin's "Birds
of fire" the intro is very dark with a keyboard sound and a guitar through
the Wammy pedal, it also has the RSS effect. I have fans that think this is a
great song and others who don't really care for it. It is the type of song, you
either love it or hate. Moving guitar and orchestration. The ending is a lot
like the into but not as dark sounding. Richard Falcon:
electric guitars, bass, drums, orchestra arrangement, horn arrangement,
keyboards.
Christina's Home is dedicated to a very special little girl who
invited me to her first birthday. Features a classical guitar with strings Keys,
bass and percussions. This is a favorite with radio stations and the most
downloaded song on the CD. Richard Falcon: classical guitar,
bass, drums, keyboard, cello.
Two Girls and a Boy, I wrote this song before the boys came along.
Jazz song to the core. Tenor Sax, rotary organ that is recorded in stereo.
Upright bass. This song is a great Jazz tune. Live I use guitar chords instead
of the organ to give it a different feel. Either was it is sweet. This is
the type of song that everyone loves to solo over. Richard
Falcon; Percussions, Bass, Guitars, Sax solos, Piano solo.
Little Ballerina, Features Talia on vocals speaking through a
harmonizer saying "little ballerina dance through the air",
"little ballerina dance like the wind". Acoustic guitar
played finger style, with a violin and another acoustic taking the lead. Bass
guitar in the back ground. A lot of fans have commented that they like this
song. Unfortunately the radio stations never caught on. Richard
Falcon; Guitars, Bass, Percussions, String arrangement, Talia Falcon: voice
State Of Confusion, This song was actually written for the band
"Salem's Harp", I re-did it as an instrumental. Features a Cello and
Violin. Bass also moves like the Cello and Violin, I purposely tried to create
dissonance in the violin playing to get a dark feel for the song. Drums are a
sample and so are the angry crowd voices in the background. Explosions are also
sampled, The problem with sampled sounds is getting them where you want them.
Richard Falcon: Guitars, Bass, Sampled Drums, Samples,
Cello, Violin,
Steal Away, I was surprised how much this song was liked by fans.
Mostly acoustic guitar with a melody over a chord progressions. It has a lot of
the similarities as "Anywhere with you" on the Send Angels album,
using the modal system to create the different moods in the chorus and verses.
Eagle Radio used this song for advertisements. Richard Falcon:
Guitars, Bass, Drums.
Moon Dance, This was my favorite song on the CD. Opening is
written in a waltz style, hmmm, sort of like Strauss....you know we are related.
I like the string arrangements in the intro. It then kicks into four four
timing. The ending uses the violin and voices to finish up with. Of course we
couldn't end the CD with the guitar solo. Richard
Falcon: Guitar, Bass, Strings, Percussions.
Hidden Song: The hidden song after Moon Dance is entitled,
"Improve in A Major". It features Talia Falcon on bass and Tadyn
Falcon on drums. A trio strictly improved!
The second album was a lot of fun to record and play. I want to thank Amy
Werner for her cover design on the album. I also want to thank all of you who
have purchased Send Angels and also for all of you that continue to support the
music. Tell a friend! Please feel free to write or email me your comments.
