Character Background Continued... I as approached by a friend of my father’s one day. He was a clergyman from the temple of Farsk, a lesser known god. Ba’Luk explained that he knew my father and wanted to help me on behalf of his memory. I had heard that speech many times and at first was reluctant, but soon began what would become my training into the church of Farsk. During my training as a cleric of Farsk, I learned that I had a better knack with magic than I would ever have with horse riding as a paladin. I took to the role of a cleric like a fish to water. In my studies I learned the history of the Island, the names of the gods and more about the divine magic, surpassing even my father’s knowledge of those arts. Part of becoming a cleric also included going on small missions, or escorting someone of importance to a destination. Relatively easy things to do, but not for me. I have once delivered a package into the enemy’s hands without realizing it, I have escorted a merchant directly through bandit territory, nearly loosing his entire supply, and I have most recently failed to clean out a Kobold infestation to the south. There is no shame like the one where you have to write your own ransom note to the church because your captors don’t have enough intelligence to speak the common language, and yet were successful in capturing you. In all these excursions, Reverend Ba’Luk has been there for me. Reverend Ba’Luk is my mentor and a good friend of my father so he overlooks some of my minor flaws in remembrance of Sagulo’s deeds. And even though he is a bit gruff sometimes, especially when my misadventures cost the church precious silver, he is a good man to have on my side. I hope that I will make my father proud, and I hope to be able to earn the right of the Helpi namesake. Half my life is devoted to my advancement as a cleric of Farsk to teach the people the mistakes that caused the great war in the first place, and the other half is to live in the shadow of my father and his deeds in hopes of being as great as he. |
