Stopping a service cancels any network connections the
service is using. Also, some services are dependent on others.
Stopping one service can stop others.
Services cannot be stopped from a command prompt within Windows.
Syntax
NET HELP STOP
NET STOP

| NWLINK]

NET STOP
service
To stop the workgroup redirector, type:
NET STOP
(This breaks all your connections to shared resources and
removes the NET commands from your computer's memory).
Parameters
- BASIC

- Stops the basic redirector.
- NETBEUI
(v7.00)
- Stops the NetBIOS interface.
- NWLINK
(v7.00)
- Stops the IPX/SPX-compatible interface.
- NWREDIR
(v7.00)
- Stops the Microsoft Novell(R) compatible redirector.
- service
(NT3.1)
- One of:
- WORKSTATION
(v7.00)
- Stops the default redirector.
Switches
- /YES
(v7.00)
- Carries out the command without first prompting you
to provide information or confirm actions.

You must have administrative rights to stop the Server service.
The Eventlog service cannot be stopped.
