How did you find out about cosplaying?
Well I never really intentionally wanted to find out about cosplay. I mean, I would try to somewhat immitate anime characters clothes n' stuff, but I didn't know it was a hobby. For example when I was 10, Poke'mon was HUUUUGE with kids so I tried to dress up like Misty when the first movie came out. I also loved japanese street fashion and wished I could dress like that all the time.
It all started Halloween '03. I was looking for reference pictures of Rikku from FFX b/c I had mistakenly setup the Otaku's Promise Bet (as a funny joke for my last yeart at my school). The first cosplayer I saw was Miss Adella of Cosplay.com and Aeris/Adella Cosplay. She was SOOOOOO good I thought she was an actress playing Aeris in a series (kinda like Smoon Live or something like that). On her website she kept mentioning the word "cosplay." So I looked it up (and if you don't know what it is check it out on my site!) So I looked it up and found out the definition. I thought then: "THERE MUST BE MORE OF THESE SO CALLED COSPLAYS, EVEN A RIKKU ONE!"
I was right, and I hit the jack pot when I found cosplayer Ci-Ci-O from the i-Play Cosplaying Group. This girl did such an accurate, amazing costume and even described how she constructed it (she also made an excellent Selphie). One thing led to another cosplay site, and I eventually found the wonderful CosplayLab.com and Cosplay.com
By sheer coinscidence, my buddy Kyle aka Vash/Kyo-chan took a bunch of our friends and me to our first anime convetion (actully Kyo-chan already went to BAAF <Big Apple Anime Fest> with his cousin Sam aka SakuraSam) - AnimeNext- during te time of my discovery of cosplay. I experienced REAL cosplayers upclose and personal at the fest. I even chased around afew Inuyashas and Sesshomarus!
This all inspired me to make my "Ghetto Coslay Site" and start cosplaying. Now that my costume collection is growing I have decided to rebuild Ghetto Cosplay to make it to an official one! So I guess that is where my story leads me now. I have yet to enter a cosplay competition though...
Of all hobbies WHY??? Cosplay?
Well it is an unusual hobby. Some people may call it weird, but it is no different than collecting stamps or making mini models. It is really a person's preference. Besides it shows my dedication and love for my fave video games, animes, and stuff like that. It's fun constructing my own clothing, acting like certain chars, and going to convetions! Also did I mention I have now accquired the skill to somewhat sew ^_^?
