Just babble

So it’s Monday again. And not only that: we’re possibly dealing with the worst Monday of the year – the spring daylight savings Monday.* It means one less hour of sleep and therefore a very groggy day. I’m proud to announce I got almost no work done today but instead read many Mo’s archived entries. They’re fun to read, plus they give the background information I was lacking before. I think that’s going to be my new thing for the slow hours at work – reading the archives of my favourite journals. Some are scarier than others; for example, reading Kymm’s archives can really be called an Herculean effort since there are so many of them but I will not let that scare me. They’re fun, after all!
* Why is it that the US daylight savings Sunday is not the same it is here? Or more accurately, why isn’t it the same in spring (since, if my memory doesn’t fail me, it was the same day last autumn)
More random babble: Speaking of Ellie – she got a new computer and installed the Sims, thus starting with a fresh game. She complained about not having enough people there to make friends with and I offered to make her some new families. Ellie seemed a little hesitant, probably because she knows where my families and stories usually take me, but I’ve got my fingers crossed. She has Makin’ Magic after all and I’ve been aching to try it out. I’ll probably cave and buy it for myself, even if nobody gets it for my birthday. The birthday thing is another thing weighing on my mind. For the last two years I’ve tried not to have a party. Just for your information, that’s not really an idea that works! My closest friends insist on celebrating it anyway and I’m at the party worrying about the trouble they had to go through in order to make it happen. So this year I’ve taken the opposite approach: I’m going to have a party, I’m going to send out a broad invitation and will leave it to others’ discretion whether they decide to show up or not. It’s a good plan but presents me with another problem (no, for once it isn’t money, I actually have the money for it) – the location. A recent example proved that trying to get separate groups together in a pub or night club is not a good idea, at least not in the beginning of the evening. So I need to pick a more closed location. Hellhole isn’t a good option either, since the neighbours tend to complain about the noise, even when you’re only playing board games. I really don’t think they can handle a birthday party. For awhile I was stumped by that but after talking to Liz (the Brother’s girlfriend) I have some ideas. She suggested using my mum’s place while she stayed at the Hellhole for a day. Its location is so much better, especially if we want to do something afterwards and it’s also bigger. I was worried Mum wouldn’t go for it but, surprisingly enough, she didn’t even protest very hard. Now I just need to find someone to help me with the preparations.
