What about Dec?
|
I haven't written anything for the whole month. And yet there have been many topics to talk about so what was the matter? To put it simply - I've been swamped in every aspect of my life. Work was more demanding than ever, the extra accounting I do, took away most nights, what little time I had left over was spent with friends, family or shopping for presents. So following is a short recap of my December:
Dec 5 - Saw Ganz und Gar at PÖFF. Liked it as the simple comedy it was. I was sceptical at first because it's German but it was great. Trust me!
Dec 7 - Saw Dogville at PÖFF. A few words can't describe how much I loved it. It pushed all my buttons and made me think for days afterwards about the possible meanings of the solution. I really wanted to write an entry about it but there didn't seem to be time/mood for it. I'm still planning to write it but I have to see the film again first.
Dec 22 - The last day at work and the day of the worst snowstorm of all time (which is an exaggeration). The traffic in Tallinn was at a total standstill like nobody here had ever even heard of snow. People, you live in Northern Europe. Snow is to be expected. Be prepared!
We were having our office Christmas party. The first thing on the agenda was mug painting and I have a coffee mug to prove it! Then dinner at the Elevant. Perfect!
Dec 23 - The day of Christmas shopping. I vowed at the end of it to convert to something with as few gift-giving holidays as possible. Not that I'm religious now but Christmas (along with Easter) is something our family still celebrates.
Dec 24 - Christmas with my mum, brother and his girlfriend. Except for the appearance of the girlfriend it was blissfully uneventful.
Dec 25 - Dinner with my father and paternal grandmother. I miss my grandpa... Dad had obviously had something to drink and that made me and bro leave sooner than usual.
Dec 26 - Driving to my mum's parents. I don't get to see them often and this time enjoyed the visit more than usual. We also visited mum's childhood friend and I bonded with her eldest daughter over the problems of getting and having a flat of your own. The drive back was mostly done in fog and mum had forgotten how to turn the fog-lights on. Entertaining!
Dec 30 - Finally the New Year's plans solidified. We are planning to take over Bryan's place. I haven't been to Tartu for a very long time and am really looking forward to it. At the same time it doesn't really seem like the end of a year - more like another party with friends.
