83-2474 Gibson 1964 Florentine Electric mandolin, sunburst, 181717, very good plus, OH. The Electric Florentino has always reminded us of Quentin Tarentino (we don't know why, perhaps it's the rhythm of the words). It looks nothing like him, however, having two points in the upper bouts, comprising a double cutaway and a Florentine doubly scrolled peghead. Since the top is bound in wide yellowed ivoroid, like your great-grandfather's teeth, those cutaways really stand out, and so does the bound fingerboard. The amoeba shaped pickguard is triple bound and houses a P-90 with four pole pieces. At the lower treble bout there is a volume and cylinder tone controls.

The original slide-on tailpiece bears the Gibson logo in '50s style squiggle filigree engraving. The tuners are freshly re-gold plated Kluson style Deluxe with the single lubrication hole with smooth pearloid buttons. The tailpiece pickguard clamp and jack plate, however, have lost all their gold. The back one is one big slabbo mahogany, with attractive grain, which like the top is a three-tone sunburst with golden coloring at center and reddish brown at the edges. The grain on the two piece top is somewhat swirly. This is one of very few 8-string solid body electric mandolins and, as such, sets the standard for the art of loud mandolin playing with an ensemble. **$2320
