RISHRA SEWAK SANGH

Rishra today  is not  the same as  Rishra 25 years ago.  Older citizens  of this  town says  that  as  a  suburb of Kolkata, it was an important center of industries and commerce. It is a fact that owing to  these  industries  the town got it's cosmopolitan composition. Since the year 1975 more & more people moved into Rishra for  and explosion of Hindi speaking population is going on. These Hindi speaking families remain loyal to their culture and heritage.

With this growth of population some spirited youths assembled with an idea to do some community services for the locals of Rishra. Some of them like, Mr. R.K.gupta, Mr. Pawan Goenka, Mr. Ramesh  Bahl, Mr. Keshav Jalan, Mr. Arjun Gupta,Mr. Shanker Agarwal and Vinod Tibrewal etc.

On 13th April 1977 the day of Bengali New Year those service minded gave birth to an organisation "RISHRA SEWAK SANGH". Mr. R.K.gupta was the first president and rest o f the members became executive council members. Very soon the  organisation was registered under Societies Act.

Activities started on 15th August 1977 the Independence day of India, when a homeopathic outdoor dispensary- in a rented garage-  was inaugurated by Mr. N.K.Birla of Hidusthan Motors Ltd, It is remarkable that since that day the homeopathy dept is being under the able guidance of Dr. Uday Narayan Jha till today.

In the year 1978 those spirited members brought out a souvenir in a cultural  programme held at Vidya Mandir, Kolkata, as their first fund raising programme. During the same period  a land consisting 60,000 Sqr feet was purchased with an idea to expand the  medical services.

In the year 1979 many more new members came forward to join this organisation.   A new executive committee was formed  headed by Mr. Ramesh  Bahl as president. It was then the child  immunization  programme  was started on every Sunday evening which is smoothly continuing till date, significantly without skipping on any Sunday during last 24  years.

In the year 1980 in order to provide relief to Tarkeshwar pilgrims during Shrawan month of Indian calendar, a camp was started at Basudeopur, on Sheoraphully-Tarkeshwar route. Three years back due to certain reasons beyond control the camp was shifted to Baghkhal, Rishra, on G.T.Road.

With an idea to brings the citizens of  Rishra close to each  other and to make them  fell  intimate  The Sangh started get-together of Holi & Dipawali festivals every year. Thereafter many more  persons  attracted towards the Sangh.

The foundation  ceremony of new  building for dispensary at the present site of the Sangh was performed on 30th January 1983, the "Nirvana " day of Mahatma Gandhi. On the auspicious day of Vijoya Dashmi of the year 1984 the new dispensary was inaugurated. A Vastu Bhandar  was established with a view to provide utensils and other utilities like beds, linens and blankets etc. for marriages and other big occasions. First floor hall was inaugurated by Shree Pushker Lal Kedia on 13th April 1977 when prominent socialite Mrs. Alka Bangur and Shree Govind Ram Dhaniwala were also present.  These two community halls with all modern facilities, along with the Vastu Bhandar are being utilised  by the community within Rishra and outside Rishra with 100% occupancy in the marriage seasons. A 3000sqr feet second floor is also completed for Naturopathy Dept. where Yoga classes are being conducted in the morning everyday and naturopathic/ Alternative Medicine treatment is being given thrice in a week. Construction of a roof-garden consisting of 4000sqr feet is under  progress.

It is true that money never becomes constraint for any  good work, Rishra Sewak Sangh has been patronized by  many donors  and dedicated workers  since 1977. With their generous help Rishra Sewak Sangh has  been  established as a esteemed social organisation of Rishra town.
