As many as the grains of sand,
As many as the flakes of snow,
As many as the leaves on the trees,
As many as the layers of earth,
As many as the waves in the ocean,
As many as the twigs in the forest,
As many as the molecules of water,
As many as the stars in the skies,
As many as the precious moments in time,
As many as the rises and sets of the suns,
As many as all these things are we;
And yet the Maker knows the name of us all.
The name he knows is not the name we call ourselves,
Not Pat or Chris or Alex or Sam.
The name he knows each of us by
Is the name we spend all our lives trying to discover.
