Rainy Days

I loved the rainy days
When my daddy used to sing
Those piano keys would blaze
How his farmer's voice did ring!

His dark brown fingers,
So rough and strong
Suddenly were limber
As his voice cried out in song.

He sang to me of Moonshine
and Sweet Vi-o-lets
Oh, how my eyes would shine
In those days before regrets.

The old ivory keys
were badly out of tune
Still, "Please, daddy, Please!
You're stopping way too soon!"

The low notes would KLANK
and The higher ones were flat
But when his voice rose and sank
My little heart went Pitty-Pat

Yes, I loved the rainy days
When my daddy sang to me
Now those resting Sunshine rays
Still set my little girl-heart free.
