Racing Sports Akimoto

In just a few short hours, this is what they came up with. I would definitely recommend upgrading RS Akimoto Intake the intake on the PGTs. However, the cost of this one was substantially more expensive than was necessary. The price was over $300 which included $180 for the RSA kit, $100 for labor, and the rest in miscellaneous parts and tax.

First of all, the entire RSA kit for the Honda includes the filter, yellow tube connectors, and a very long pipe designed to go from the throttle body to beind the headlight. Speed & Truck World simply cut this long pipe after the curve, but still managed to charge me for the entire pipe. The rest of the tube was supposed to be used for another section that was supposed to extend from the front of the VAF to the bottom of the engine bay, but the automatic transmission was in the way. Next, the tube was connected to the back of the VAF (Vane Air Flow) meter with a standard 3"-to-3" rubber pipe connector. These are regularly available at Home Depot, Builder's Square, etc. for a mere $5.99 yet I was charged $30 for it by Speed & Truck World! I have purchased these myself since and let me assure you that the one from S&TW and the ones from Builder's Square have identical manufacturers and SKU numbers!

That is just to show you that if you are in a rush and don't do your homework, you can get taken very easily. I will never let that happen again. Since this experience, I do most of my own work and if I can't, I do a lot of shopping around before committing to a decision.

Anyway, here are some before and after photos of the intake. Regardless of the price, it came out very nice and did its job.

The original plan was to run the tube down and to the front, but the automatic transmission prevented it. Because of that, the foremost factory duct was retained; it lines up fairly well with the filter and helps bring in cooler air. Even still, the intake improved top end performance significantly. There is more high rpm pull and the engine definitely spools up faster. It also has very unique sounds, both at idle and wide open throttle. At idle it sounds slightly like quiet vacuum on a low setting and at WOT, it sounds like a super-charger!
