Thanks to a fairly reckless individual in a very large Chevy pickup truck, my pride and joy became a veritable pile of scrap parts.
A brief rundown:
5/14: | Accident occurred at 5:45pm EST on my way to school. |
5/15: | Took photos at the towing company's lot and made this page! |
5/16: | Insurance adjuster estimated the damage, but was unable to open the hood for a thorough inspection. NOTE: he has already stated that there will be more damage and that it will be added as an supplemental claim after the car is dismantled and all damage is revealed. |
5/17: | Received the accident report. NOTE: According to the accident report, the driver of the pick-up was cited for "Improper U-turn" and that there was "no improper driving" on my part. Also, it states that in his attempt to make that U-turn, he drove directly into the path of my car and that I could not have avoided the collision. |
5/19: | Car was taken from the tow company's lot to the Ford body shop. I stopped by on my way to school. The hood had been "unstuck" so I took a peek. While the intake seems to be intact, there is substantial damage to the forward part of the engine compartment (radiator, A/C condenser, fans, etc.) |
5/23: | Ford body shop JUST received the estimate and OK from the insurance company. I signed the work-order so hopefully the car is being dismantled and parts are on order already. |
5/30: | Car was dismantled and the insurance adjuster was called to look at it and re-appraise the damage. |
6/4: | The adjuster finally made it out to the body shop for the second estimate. The amount of hidden damage brought the total estimate to over $10K. At about 2:30pm, I received a call telling me to go and get any personal effects that may still be in the car as it will be towed to the junk yard the following day. |
As you may imagine, I dropped everything and headed down to the body shop to retrieve my stereo system, GReddy cat-back exhaust, RSA intake, and Eibach springs. I was able to get everything out with the exception of the springs. Insurance will reimburse me for them, however.
This is last look that I had of my 1996 Probe GT.
After two weeks of unsuccessful searching for a Boysenberry Blue replacement, I decided on a '97 Laser Red Probe GT-S.
