Marine By God
The USMC is over 219 years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world
has ever seen. We were born in a bomb crater, our mother was an M-16 and our father was the devil.
Each moment that I live is an additional threat upon your life. I am a rough looking, roving soldier of the sea.
I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and I do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green,
amphibious monster made of blood and guts who arose from the sea, festering on anti-Americans throughout the globe.
Whenever it may arise, and when my time comes, I will die a glorious death on the battle field, giving my life
to mom, the Corps, and the American flag.
We stole the eagle from the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while
God rested, we over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we've been running the show ever since. We live
like soldiers and talk like sailors and slap the hell out of both of them. Soldier by day, lover by night, drunkard
by choice, MARINE BY GOD!!!

Why I joined the Marine Corps.
There are many reasons why I decided to join the Marine Corps. One of the primary reasons that really influenced me is living in Westfield, NJ. Westfield is a rich, old community full of rich, loving parents. It seems to me everything is handed to you on a silver platter. I feel like there is no incentive or a goal to strive for. My parents have been provided me throughout, I feel that my current accomplishments are also their accomplishments. In all my schooling, I found that I need a challenge to measure myself and see where I stand on the scale of the harsh world. In joining the Marine Corps, I hope to gain self-confidence and self-reliance. I have always have believed that everyone should by self-reliant. In the recent events that lead to the shut off of conveniences like water, power, and really things that we take for granted has really emphasized the need to be self-reliant. In the growing world of technological advances, I believe that we humans have forgotten the basic survival skills. As we go on, humans are becoming more relied upon computers and technology to do the actual work like farming. The human population will be in trouble when these computers break down like the hype and hysteria about the Y2K computer bug. Because of the confusion and disorder, chaos will follow. The human race is bound to fall on the double edge sword of technology. Being self-reliant means to me, is the ability to function as a self-contained unit, working as a team or alone, and excel, no matter what the opposition is, whether in the jungle or in the city. There are incidents in life, that really illustrated to me, the need to be more self-reliant and street wise. By joining the Marine Corps, I hope to gain valuable experiences that will help me throughout life. In life there are many twists and turns, I rather learn about those twists and turns earlier than falling into pit falls later.

Another few reasons I joined the Marine Corps...
Ever since I joined the Delayed Entry Program, many people have asked why I decided to join the Marine Corps. Basically
to me, it seems society has become too politically correct. It is great that society has become aware of diverse
people living within and their culture, but it also has been taken to an all time low. Society is defined as "Human
beings in general" or "A group of people with a common culture or way of life". That "way of
life" has been taken to absurd levels.
Due to society, some schools have taken away failing grades and sometimes let students take tests as many times
necessary for them to pass. Other schools have watered down their academic standards, to accommodate their students.
These actions sugarcoat the fact that some students don't have the necessary skills needed. Schools like these
make excuses by blaming either parents or society; meanwhile parents blame the school for not properly educating
their kids. The result is fostering an environment where the students can do not wrong, setting them up to be failures
in society.
Some schools, which do a better job educating their students, still have dilemmas. Among the problems are the grading
system and types of classes some students take to be competitive. Educators are constantly debating about what
to do with the grading system. Obviously, a student who gets an 89.0 average is not equivalent to someone who obtains
an 80.2 but on report cards both show a "B" average. Resulting in educators introducing pluses and minuses.
Due to the pressure of society to make things look nicer that they really are, many schools have eliminated the
minuses, to sugarcoat things over. By introducing the pluses, many students will compete for the "A pluses".
In trying to obtain that "A+", students will have to spend a lot of time studying, resulting in loss
of street smarts, to stay competitive. Others work the system and take lighter class loads or take easier classes.
Obviously, its not fair that a student who received an "A" in calculus is equivalent was the one that
received an "A" in foods class. As a result parents like to point out why their child has a lower GPA
than the next kid.
Through it all, all I see are schools lowering their standards due to the enormous pressure of society that make
school bear no resemblance to real life. I joined the Marines and accept their challenge to obtain in what I still
consider a high standard. To pass a test that has not wavered in today's society.
