Static Electricity

When you think about it, all matter is electrical in nature. It consists of atoms containing positive charges in the form of protons and negative charges in the form of electrons. These charges exert electrical forces on each other; like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other.

From the work of Micheal Faraday (1791-1867) and Robert A. Millikan (1868-1953) we learn that all electric charges are multiples of a natural unit charge that is equal to the quantity of charge on an electron or a proton. This natural unit is the smallest quantity in which positive or negative charges occur.
