(Corps Review, Fall 1998)-- The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets began the 1998-99 academic year with almost 700 cadets in the regiment, about twice the size of just four years ago. This continued growth has required a significant reorganization effort.
Two units have been reactivated -- India and Kilo Companies. They had been deactivated more than a decade ago. The Regimental Band, the Highty-Tighties, joins the two new companies to comprise the 3rd Cadet Battalion.
The newly formed battalion faces several challenges this year, including being spread among all three cadet dormitories. The inclusion of the Highty-tighties in the battalion provides them with improved administrative services, as well as a more structured leadership environment.
The newly appointed deputy commandant of cadets if Col Richard S. "Rock" Roszak, who graduated from the corps and Virginia Tech in 1971.
