The use of the adverb chi, which adds a sense of proximity to the demonstrative correlative words is a very common construction in Esperanto, especially to show contrast:

        - chi tie = “here”

        - Tiu signifas ... dum chi tiu siginifas ... = “The former means ... while the latter means ...”

        - Chi tial ... = “For this (very) reason ...”
