Although the car was obviously very fast having factory quoted performance figures of a sub 6 second 0-60 and a top speed in excess of 155mph, it wasn't long before my urge for more performance became too much to resist!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway I had been looking into a Modification that Owen Developments (my local tuners) were carrying out called a UNICHIP. Like anyone else I presumed it was just like any other "chip" upgrade. Anyway I went and spoke to Owen Developments and they briefed me on what the Unichip was. I soon realised it was much much more than simply a chip and infact was a complete piggyback ecu . I was so impressed with what it was advertising I booked my car in for the modification to be carried out ASAP. The results of the mod were amazing............... the car was remapped to run at optimum using only Normal Unleaded (95RON) fuel instead of the previously required and expensive "Super Unleaded". It was also mapped to run a peak boost level of 16psi instead of the factory 13psi. Performance figures were a recorded 231bhp at the rear wheels (276 flywheel) and 285lbft of torque. The car was also dyno'd weeks later at Gerald Dale Motorsport with figures of 290.8bhp and 281lbft/ The car was so much more responsive and pulled through 3rd and 4th as if they were 2nd and 3rd. The truly amazing aspect of the conversion was that I was getting an average fuel consumption figure of 30mpg, regardless of driving stlye.
So basically I had :
Cheaper Fuel More Performance Better Economy
What more could one want???????????????????????? |
