Leader Training Weekend

Over the weekend of 24th - 25th June I attended the third of my Leader Training weekends. This was the camping one which took place at a damp and chilly Ashworth Valley. Myself and 20 other leaders took part in a weekend of discussion, lectures and practical demonstrations of Scouting Skills and camping techniques.

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtably the meal on Saturday night, this was a three course meal cooked on a wood fire. There had to be a theme for the meal and our group chose a Middle Eastern theme complete with Belly Dancers! We invited Stephen Allen and John Smith (Instructors) to join us and they entered into the spirit of things with very well prepared costumes. The meal consisted of baked fish, vegetable curry and a fresh fruit salad; our thanks to the ladies of the group Debs, Lisa and Ayesha, who appeared to enjoy our contribution the Belly Dancing! A quick change into warmer clothes was followed by a sociable evening in a local hostelry and a camp fire which went on into the early hours.

This weekend takes me three quarters the way through my training and will help me to organise even better camp for the scouts.
