CRICKET |
Cricket to me represents all that is good in our world including things like respect, competitiveness, fair play, beautiful scenary, good weather.......man I could go on all day I just love this silly game and all it stands for. How come an Irishman can come to have such a passion? Well I just loved it from the minute I started to play and watch. The first series I properly watched was England versus the West Indies when Dominic Cork first came into the side, anybody remember that hat-trick of his and how well Lara batted in that series. As a player I would being realistic describe myself as an agricultural right-handed batsman with no footwork, due to my lack of coaching of course. I bowl off-spin and have variations but in all honesty to coin a phrase from Geoff Boycott my deliveries could be described as donkey drops. Such is life, doesn't stop me from being totally fanatical about the game. Currently in cricket I'm a big Darren Gough fan. To me as an England supporter he stands above everybody else, with a greater will to win combined with that little bit of something else which only champion sports stars possess. Goughie is a bit of an inspirational character and a real joy to watch, its like watching Jimmy White in the snooker or Bobby George in the darts, you just so wish he can come out on top. However life isn't that good but lets face it, as stars they probably dont do bad for themselves in life. How many times has Goughie got edges though, only for some pretender in the slips to spill the chance. His statistics will never tell the whole story, he does not have the luxury of a good fielding side that McGrath and Co. has. Considering opinions on English cricket I feel the man that talks the most sense in the media is Geoffrey Boycott, a man I have a lot of time for. Geoff calls a spade a spade and recognises the origins of England's problems. My favourite sports commentator would have to be Ritchie Beneud, how cool is he, oh but I would so love to hear him commentating on Warne getting hit to all parts. Alright on this site I have made an outline of my views on English cricket plus listed my all time dream team. Please read and feel free to comment. Views outline Cricket Dream Team |
