FILM CLUB REPORT by Tony Dring (3D)
The Central Film Club has seen many activities this term, the two main ones being the
visits of Mr. Marks from H.M. Photographics to give a talk and demonstration on Colour
Photography, and the Club's trip to the West End.
Mr. Mark's visits proved very interesting, the first being to explain how to take
colour photographs and the second to explain the composition of a colour film and to
demonstrate how to process colour prints.
The Club's trip was a successful and interesting morning out.
New members are always welcome, even though they are beginners and know nothing of
photography.
THE CHRISTIAN UNION by Edna Walker
With the help of Miss Francis, the Downhills Christian Union was formed at the
beginning of this term. It was on Thursday 3rd November that the first meeting was held,
and twenty boys and girls met in the library to take part. On 1st December the speaker
was the Rev. J. Jordon.
A varied programme is being arranged, and it is hoped that the numbers will increase.
The Christian Union is interdenominational, so all are welcome.
The meetings are held alternate Thursdays in the library at 4 p.m.
THE PRINTING CLUB by A.J.S.
The printing club has gone from strength to strength, and some of its work can be seen
adorning the front of this magazine. New blood has been provided by third year boys and
new funds by the Parent Teacher Association. We welcome visitors, whether they want
to have a go at printing, or just to watch and see how it is done.
You will find us after school, most days, in Room C, muttering cabalistically, "upper
case eight point Gill bold."
You may even find yourself printing the next magazine.
THE SCHOOL CHRISTMAS TREE by V. Huffer
This year he have had a Christmas tree. It was given to us by the generous parents
of one of the fifth year pupils. A very large tree, it made us wonder whether we would
be able to decorate it satisfactorily, but thanks to the money given to us by you, the
kind pupils and staff of the school, we think that we made quite a good job of it.
Thanks to all the wonderful gifts that you brought us, we were able also to present
some less fortunate children with some lovely gifts and a pretty tree. May we in the
fifth year take this oppportunity to thank you all for the help that you gave us.
FOOTNOTE by A.S.J.
Mrs. Leech says I must do this in my own typing: I should like to express my grateful
thanks to her and to Maureen Payne and Linda Pepper. Mrs. Leech has had the great labour
of typing these stencils, and Maureen and Linda have operated 'The Beast' as I have
christened the duplicator.
The glamourous cover has been printed by R. Beckwith, J. Franklin, R. Parsons, and
D. Smith under Mr. Shine's direction - many thanks to them, also.
Lastly - a special thank you to all our contributors, and a Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year to you all.
