Fragments of the Soul

Journey

We leave endless footprints in the sand
Like fleeting memories touched by dreams
That lead us to where we're going
And remind us of where we've been.

Between

We walk a fine line between worlds
Dying even as we're born
Forever seeing and never knowing
The one destiny we were meant for.

Dark Flame

We stare with open eyes, unblinking
Until the fire dies out and the world ends
And still we can't see until it's gone,
What fate has taken from our hands.

Demon Love

And touch, like silk
Ivory in blackness
Liquid fire and fate
You are a dream lover
Made all too real.

Fallen Angel

You say you are a devil, you say you live in night
Yet if we were to feed the wind our caution
And meet by midnight at the core of desire,
Would you be such a demon lover
To this lost and fallen angel?

Wait

If you wait by the river at the edge of the world
I will show you a night without stars
And a dawn in which they dance on forever
Like small gods in a blue-tinted snowglobe.

Relative Significance

To tell the universe we exist
Would not be so beneficial
If the universe felt no real sense
Of obligation.
In any larger scheme,
We could only be specks of dust in sunlight
Constant and aware of our personal importance,
Without realizing this existential
Lack of significance.

What Lies Beyond

All along this desert highway
Eyes that watch as falling embers die
Drawn into this kingdom once called death
Cold among the shadows,
It's an enigmatic concept
A thousand years ancient
And a thousand times repeated
Ten thousand times a victor
And ten thousand times defeated.

Missing You

These dreams grow harsh
As I lie awake alone
Without you
The tears in my throat
That lift the blood to my face
And burn my pulse
Without you
I stare at a silent phone
But it's no longer
Just your voice I need
Souls across an open sky
And had I wings I would
Learn to fly
But all I have is me, alone
For now, just this now,
Until we touch forever
So we won't have to remember
What time and distance mean.

Keep Me From Crying

I light a candle
And watch the storm outside
Incense burning
Of sandalwood and sage
And you so far away
Just a phantom touch
A lingering sigh
The blood in my skin burning
Like incense of my soul
And every part of me crying
Without sound
And every thought in that flickering candle
Bearing on angel wings to you.

The Embrace

A twisting fire
A shivering desire
And breath quickens
The air tightens

My body wrapped in your hands
My skin drowned in your kiss
All the soft warm curves
Lit by shadows, touched by fire
The steady caress giving way
To animal need, and I shake,
Slick on my skin, and your tongue
All the secret places, and my mouth
The very pulse of midnight

As the pulse of life surrounds us
As I wrap my legs around you
My body flame, and your lips
And tongue a living snake
Our mouths crushed like a battle
And teeth, drinking flesh

Two fluid bodies coiled around time
And the shudders and harsh breath
Into red blackness, tumbling rapture
And one last kiss
Before the gasping break of dawn.

Balcony

Once, I locked myself inside my mind
When I was afraid to face myself
For days you prowled outside my door
And refused to let me fall
You were the only soul I'd let touch mine
Because I didn't really know for sure
Whether or not the world out there
Ever really cared at all about me.

But in my dream I saw you standing
With the moonlight in your eyes
And distant waves on distant shores
Underneath a twilight sky
And you and me, standing
Together above the sea
On this twenty-first century
Balcony.

Heart Immortal

A thousand years ago I was darkness
For a thousand years I was light
And after a thousand years I am innocence
And in a thousand years I will still love you.

If

If you ask me I will stay
And if you touch me I will breathe
And if you wander I will follow
But if you want I won't stray far.
If you love me, I will live.

With Me

And I cannot not go
And I cannot breathe
And I cannot sleep
And I will not say a word
I've waited this long
It's only forever
And I will not cry
Until I have you here with me.

Chivalrous

I once beheld, a lifetime away,
A knight in shadow armor
With an angel's broken wings
And here I see you now
A lifetime away
A knight in moonlit armor
With shadow memory
To take me to a high-walled castle
To make me the princess I could never be
To love me until I cannot tell
Whose soul belongs to whom.

Personalized Philosophical Acrostic

Just beyond reality something else waits
Or maybe it's already here
Adrenaline, where there shouldn't be; it's just sight-seeing
Nobody sees, or hears, or cares, and it makes me wonder
Nevermore, said the raven, but I'm not looking for enigma
Actually, I'm waiting to step outside.

Dream of Flying

We ride the twilight of hope
Slivers of stars caught in our palms
And when the sky pours down in royal night
We burn the flame of love.

Circle

A blue green orb of world
A silent flash of star
A brilliant flare of sunburst space
My soul takes wing in newborn flight
My heart to soar the skies.

Fly Away

And I would wait forever
To see you once again
To hold you in my arms forever
And time and space would bend
I know I'm not immortal
But I know that I can try
To love you for a thousand years
Until the day I die
And if I cried a thousand tears
Would you kiss them away
Would you take me in your arms and
Fly away?

Starlit Death

And when all is silent
Giving way to a lunar song not quite a sound
When dusk creates a bridge between one world and another
That is when the denizens of life come out to play
In thick glades glistening with dew-streaked silver
Paying homage to the sun in his daily starlit death,
Like elves and fairies dancing at the gates to a trod
When all the world is magic, when all the world's a stage
And yes, we are but players
So now we take our bow, and again, all is silent.

The Artist's Dream

Handle love like poetry, like a form of art
Gentle as blown glass, brilliant as day
Paint a picture of life, read a play by Sartre
Find a sun-drenched field in which to lay.
Find the one who's stolen your heart
A true poet writes what his heart knows to say
Look at yin and yang, never apart
Have your drink, repeat that everything's okay.

So, beloved, take my heart
And in your own way ask me to stay
Think what you know, of what we could start
And with you I'd always fly away.
