With my troop at the Ayala Mountaineers Club in Mt. Makiling, 1994.

It was dark, the trail was wet and muddy, we're tired and hungry -- but you won't guess it from the wide smiles we're all so ready to flash whenever anyone would bring out a camera!

By the shores of Mt. Taal, Batangas. Sometime in 1992.

As usual, me and my mates were clowning around after pitching camp. After all, our "masters" (the trainers) were getting the rice ready for cooking, hehehe!

Another minor climb, this time to the training mountain known as Mt. Maculot in Cuenca, Batangas (October 8, 1993). Again, with some of my batchmates in Ayala Mountaineers.

Despite being done in during the wet season, it can still get a bit hot up here -- moreso when you're passing through a swath of cogon!

Doing a "take five" -- catching my breath on my way to the top!  These two shots were taken on The Rockies of Maculot.  On a good day, you can see over Taal from one side, and the nearby town of Cuenca from the other.

Now THIS is the climb that I'm the most proud of:  Mt. Pulag, January 1994. This is highest peak in Luzon, and is said to be the second-highest mountain in the Philippines (altitude, 1922 meters above sea level).

This was taken at seven in the morning. Despite a hot cuppa java and five layers of clothes, my teeth were still chattering!

Even after over a decade, I can still remember how it felt like walking on clouds; the ground at the summit was covered in dwarf bamboo, and I saw the fog and wisps of clouds waft across my boots earlier in the day.

I hope someday I can go back.
