Description: Our home course is awesome. It is exactly 5,000m. There is not one hill on the course. Maybe a few bumps but you can run a very fast time. Depending on the weather you can run the same time on this course as you could on a track. It is somewhat of a 2 loop out and back course.
Directions: The race starts perpendicular to the midpoint of the 1st dugout building and goes straight into the woods. It is wide open for the first 1/4 mile and then it goes on a somewhat windy trail. The main trail, or the one you run on twice, used to be the old Hillsboro train tracks but now it's just a trail. Follow that until the fork. The first loop, take a right and pass the 1st mile marker. Then come to a clearing, turn left and turn right at the chain link fence. Follow the trail around the Hillsboro sewer treatment plant and turn right when you reach the driveway. When the road veers off to the right stay going straight and enter at the top of Grimes Field. Follow the 800m dirt track clockwise until you pass the start/finish line. Take a right at the cemetary and around the baseball diamond. At the end of that take another right following a trail to the other side of the diamond. Pick up on the trail for the second time. Follow the train tracks along the beautiful banks of the Contoocook River. When you get to the fork once more, turn left. Follow a narrow trail back to the start of the main trail. Follow that trail to Grimes Field once more. Go straight to the finish line. A flat accurate 5,000m cross country course. You can wear spikes. If planned right you only have to run on tar a maximum of 3 steps. It is a beautiful course and by far my favorite. |
