These pages contain the interesting artefacts which occur in The Mummy Returns during the modern day sequences circa 1933. Please note that there may well be pieces of Ancient Egypt here but they do not occur in any of the flash-backs etc which are found stored in the Temple at Karnac on my other pages which you can access by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

The Sceptre Of Osiris | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Like the Scorpion King's standards in the Karnac pages this is another 'made up' item which proves the researchers from The Mummy have done some hard work. To find out about these they would have actually had to look at books of hieroglyphs (the Seshat one is particularily rare) and it may have involved Mr Smith the egyptologist who helped with the spoken Egyptian in the film. You will see from the pictures below Jonathan holding the sceptre (L) and the items which make up the item itself (R).

The Djed pillar was supposed to be the backbone of Osiris and linked the the Egyptian 'easter' celebrations where Osiris was supposedly cut into 14 pieces by his brother Set and then brought back to life by his sister Isis.

This is Seshat the lady scribe (this is what her name means) who was goddess of writing. On her head you can see her hieroglyph. Egyptian Gods often wore these as identification! and you can see it has been inverted for the sceptre.

Next comes the Hathor Head which is sitting on a piece of furniture as Evy and Rick walk up the stairs talking about the Oasis where they will find the Scorpion King. Great stuff, but either she has a copy or there are two of them, as its also on a low table in the British Museum where Rick and Ardeth are suprised by waking mummies. This is another party of Tut-ankh-amen's funerary trappings and represented Hathor goddess of love. Its at the real Museum of Antiquities in Cairo but I had a devil of a job to find a piccie - this is from a site doing replicas! |
