Episode 2: Cheers & Fears

Returning home from Tribal Council, the mood at Gluboko was mixed. Nobody was particularly sad about giving Zach the boot, but their reactions to the events of tribal council were different. Sue took a late-night walk with Kim thanking Kim switching for her vote from Sue to Zach. Kim told Sue it was no problem and she would do it again in an instant. However, Matt was irate at the fact that Kim originally betrayed her word. In a confessional, he stated, "I got a few people together to get to vote Zach with me... Hayley, Lachlan, Sue, Kim and myself. This was the majority... Zach was gone for sure. But when I found out it was a tie I was SHOCKED! Someone had betrayed me... lied to me! ... But someone betrayed me and voted for Sue! I worked out it was Kim and I am very dissapointed and now I will never trust her again." He went to bed feeling very frustrated. The next morning, Melkiy awoke on a very positive note. They were all excited about having a one-member advantage. Brandon remarked, "My tribe kicks butt, I have a feeling we will go all the way and one of us will be the ultimate survivor!". Most of the tribe felt this way, however it appeared that two of the tribe members that were on the outside the group, Frank and Will. Since they arrived, at Lake Balkhash neither of them had had in-depth conversation with anyone. Eve commented, "Frank and Will: Hello? you there?! Guess not." Later that morning, Will decided to try to contribute the tribe and checked tree-mail. He found a box and took it back to the tribe, where they opened it. Inside, they found various advertising symbols (such as the Nike swoosh) with their slogan written on it (Just do it). Melkiy spent much of midday trying to decipher what it meant. However, by early afternoon, both tribes met on challenge beach for the first reward challenge. Melkiy gathered on a yellow mat, and Gluboko gathered on a maroon mat. The tribes were told they had thirty minutes to work together to form a tribal slogan. The Melkiy tribe worked hard, and it appeared that Mike and Eve were leading Melkiy's charge. At Gluboko, Matt, Michael and Sean were stepping up as challenge leaders. Sean and Michael thoguht up some early ideas, Hayley liked both their ideas, but told Michael, "Yours is SO good." However, the ideas were quickly rejected by Matt, who don't want a slogan that people would think "ha ha ha" about. Eventually, they agreed on Hayley's idea of "Pepsi cola, coca cola, royal crown, we're gonna hypnotise em' paralise em' know em down, we're gonna F-I-G-H-T, we're gonna S-C-O-R-E, we're gonna fight we're gonna score we're gonna win this war, go GLUBOKO!" Eve came up with a decent first idea for Melkiy, but the tribe leaned towards Mike's idea of "Melkiy, Melkiy is our cry, we will make Gluboko die! Melkiy, Melkiy, the only way...there is nothing left to say. Melkiy, Melkiy, we're the best, put the other tribe to rest! Melkiy, Melkiy, we're the one...we will show you how it's done!" Alas, the thirty minutes expired and speical celebrity judges (past Survivor contestants Richard Hatch, Elisabeth Filarski and John Carroll), decided that Gluboko had a better slogan and therefore should win the reward. They were ecstatic, even though they didn't know what they had won. Soon, a boat pulled in full of lumber, tarp and other useful materials for making a strong shelter. Gluboko cheered all the way on the walk back to camp. When they returned, everybody rushed to start trying to improve the shelter. Tempers began to flare because people had different ideas of what to do. Michael was adamant that the tarp should be used as a floor and Kim was convinced they could use the tarp as a ceiling. They both decided to ask the others' opinions and each survivor offered their opinion except Hayley who said, "Those are both great ideas. I think either one would work out perfectly!" They decided to use the tarp as a floor and build the ceiling out of other supplies. That night, every Gluboko had went to bed except for Matt and Michael. They were having trouble sleeping and decided to discuss the other players. Both of them agreed that they hated how Hayley was sucking up to everyone. Matt remarked, "I can't believe how much she is sucking up to everyone. Everyone can see through you, Hayley. She's a nice girl and all but if shes going to be this fake then she may not be staying too long." However, Matt also feared that Hayley had jumped ship from the Aussie Alliance and possibly allied herself with the other 13-year-olds, Michael and Sean. The next day, when Gluboko got up, they realized using the tarp as a floor was a good idea, because they didn't wake up cold. Kim muttered to Michael, "Good idea!" and Hayley added, "Wow! You're really smart!" Later that day, Gluboko found tree mail discussing "eating things they normally wouldn't eat" and began to ponder what they would be eating. Matt boldly staed, "I'll eat anything." That afternoon, they met Melkiy at challenge beach and saw a giant ship in the lake. They were told that on the ship was just about every food imaginable from all areas of the world. Each team would have five minutes to raid the ship, and pull out one item of food. If somebody couldn't make it out in five minutes, their tribe would have less of a chance of winning. After all the food was taken out, each tribe would have ten minutes to prepare a "dish" for the other tribe to eat. The dish would then be split up seven ways and each person would some from the other side (Melkiy would sit somebody out) would eat a piece. Whichever tribe could eat the other tribe's dish faster won immunity. Being a member up, Melkiy had to sit someone out and they chose Will. Soon, the whistle blew and the contestants were off. After about 2 minutes and 13 seconds, Michael was the first off carrying cow testicles. 30 seconds later, Sue came off with boars' guts. At 3:37, the first Melkiy off was Mike holding a cheese-less pizza. Five seconds later, Missy disembarked holding some sushi. At the four minute mark, Matt left the ship holding an armful of gross slugs. Ten seconds later, Melkiy's third member, Corey returned with a small octopus. At 4:23, Melkiy's Eve came off with halloween candy shaped like eyes. With one second to go, Brandon dove off the ship with a jar of cranberry relish, that nearly broke, had Will, who had been cheering them on, not made a vailant catch to save it. He only escaped with some scratches on his leg. For Melkiy, Frank and Ryan didn't make it off the ship on time, and for Gluboko, Hayley, Lachlan, Sean and Kim failed to return. However, everyone (except Will) was able to help with the assembly of the platter. Melkiy topped Mike's pizza with the octopus, halloween candy, sushi and cranberry relish. Gluboko, having three meats, mixed the testicles, guts and slugs together. After ten minutes, both dishes were cut and were handed to each player. They tried to eat it as fast as possible. Most people quickly ate it, but Ryan and Frank were struggling for Melkiy and Lachlan was having trouble for Gluboko. Ryan soon finished, but Lachlan was next giving Gluboko immunity! They celebrated in front of a dejeceted Melkiy, who had to lose a member. Melkiy silently walked back to camp. When they got there, Mike, Corey and Missy soon found a quiet corner and discussed strategy. The three of them had been great friends from the beginning of the game, and decided to start an alliance. An ecstatic Mike remarked in a confessional, "I just made an alliance with Missy and Corey. But now I've got to start thinking about tribal council." They were going to try to play, but not align themselves, with Brandon and Eve. The five of them had a huge conversation about who to vote for Ryan, Will or Frank. Mike's orginal idea was to vote for Will, whom the tribe sat out at the challenge. The five of them realized tribal council was not until tomorrow, so they decided to wait until then to decide who to vote off. The next day, Will realized he could be going. He started to have conversations with people, and went out and got the water. Frank, meanwhile, just hung around camp, not really doing anything, while Ryan put up a minimal effort in trying to cook some food, until Brandon informed him that it had already been cooked. Near sunset, right before tribal council, the "Big 5" met again. After a long conversation, they all decided who to vote for and felt confident walking into tribal council. At tribal council, still not feeling completely safe, Will told everyone he could be a valuable tribemate. After questioning, it was time to vote. Will was first, he stood at the podium and thought he still had a chance to get into the Big 5, so he voted how he hoped they would vote. In giant, bold letters he wrote "FRANK" on his card and said, "My vote is for Frank because he doesn't seem very active in the game, and it doesn't look like he will be a great help to our tribe in future challenges." The other seven tribemates voted and Adam tallied the votes. He began to read them:

"That's two votes Frank, one vote Ryan."

"The first person voted out of the Melkiy tribe is:"

Frank quickly got up, glanced quickly at his tribemates and then proceeded to get his torch snuffed. The tribe headed back to camp prepared to face the next three days.

Next week on SURVIVOR:

WILL: "We really needed him to pull through."
