繼1986年以樣板車角色登陸星洲、配Vanhool車身的富豪B10M (SBS9C)後,新捷運於1988年首度購入富豪B10M非空調巴士,頓時為車隊注入新的力量。由100輛配亞歷山大PS型車身、100輛配都普車身組成的B10M第二型車隊,均不裝置空調設備,動力來源為富豪THD101GC引擎,配合4前速ZF4HP500全自動波箱,整個動力組合都被安置於頭、尾軸之間,並直接驅動尾軸。
踏入1999年,新捷運逐步翻新旗下的B10M第二型巴士,除了基本的車廂翻新工作外,還加裝空調設備,使新捷運車隊進一步空調化;同時,新捷運亦保留了少數非空調B10M第二型,以行走區內短途路線。值得一提的是,非空調巴士的改裝工程,於2002年已接近尾聲。
After introducing the Vanhool bodied Volvo B10M demonstrator (SBS9C) in 1986, SBS Transit eventually placed an order for B10M single-deckers in 1988. The B10M Mk2 fleet, which is non air-conditioned, consists of 100 Alexander PS-bodied and 100 Duple-bodied buses. They are all powered by Volvo THD101GC engine via 4-speed fully-automatic ZF4HP500 gearbox. The power unit is situated in between the front and the rear axle.
SBS Transit started refurbishing and fitting B10M Mk2 with air-conditioning systems from various suppliers in 1999. A small part of the non air-con fleet is also retained for Townlink services. The conversion work has slowed down since 2002.
