As a Server Based filter, netFilter v4.1 is installed at
your central network location by a network administrator. Since
netFilter v4.1 works as part of a local network's normal Internet
routing, it is effective throughout the entire network and cannot
be circumvented at the desktop computer level. With netFilter
v4.1, no other software is necessary.

with over 40 new ones added every 24 hours! The primary reason
to install netFilter v4.1 is to prevent employees from accessing
these sites during business hours, tying up your system resources.
With netFilter v4.1, our database is Updated Daily and automatically
downloaded to your server. As such, it keeps you constantly up
to date and requires no intervention from your network administrator.
To help keep track of those "temp" sites
and sites you deem inappropriate, netFilter v4.1 uses a
Dynamic Filter of codes and key words that reads each document
that is requested by the employee. If the word patterns fit the
filter's parameters, the Dynamic Filter will block the request
even though it's not in the main database. Whether the request
is direct or part of a Search Engine Result List, the Dynamic
Filter will still function.
When an employee requests a site that is restricted,
the netFilter Blocking Page is generated. Blocking Pages can also
be configured to show only your logo and a message from you, making
the netFilter v4.1 presence transparent to your employees.
Also, using netFilter v4.1, you have access
to a secondary database called the "Private Internet Filter"
for Database Content Modification. This is where a non-technical
administrator has the ability via an easy-to-use web page to add,
delete or modify URLs to fit your company's specific needs at
a moments notice. This puts you in ultimate control of what is
and is not accessible!
A URL Monitor and Analysis Interface allows non-technical
network people monitor how the Internet is being accessed within
the company:
- to determine whether Internet Access is being
misused
- to block inappropriate URLs quickly
- to unblock appropriate URLs that were erroneously
blocked
- to isolate abundant misuse to one particular
location
As an added bonus, netFilter v4.1 caches frequently accessed documents
on the server's hard disk using the Frequent URL Caching System.
Efficient cache reduces congestion on network and speeds up Internet
access.
"Scalability" means that the effectiveness
of filtering software is independent of the size of the network.
In other words, netFilter v4.1 is designed to be effective on
powerful systems while easily managed on an inexpensive, simple
Pentium machine. The Basic Version supports between 200 and 600
active web users, the Large Systems Version includes tools and
kernel patches to support 10,000 active users or more.
Due to workload pressures on a limited staff,
many network managers prefer to purchase a workstation that contains
the filtering software and its operating system already preconfigured.
This way, all you have to do is "plug" the workstation
into your network and turn it on. With Plug-and-Play Workstation
Configuration available, the UNIX-based filter can be sold to
customers with NT- or Mac-platform networks.
And because netFilter v4.1 offers Transparent
Filtering, you don't have to preconfigure each workstation's Internet
browser proxy preferences. When netFilter v4.1 is configured at
