Activities The Iota Beta chapter hosted and actively participated in several events throughout the Spring 2003 semester. In conjunction with the Gamma Delta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, the Iota Beta chapter hosted the 65th Annual Campus Lights Production. This year's show, entitled Not Far From Here, was written and co-directed by Phi Mu Alpha Alumnae Scott Hammrick, with music by Joseph Klotz. The show ran January 23-26 in Lovett Auditorium. For more information on the annual Campus Lights production visit the Murray State Music Department's Campus Lights Page.
On February 11, the chapter inducted Dr. Stephanie Rea as a Patroness Member. The Iota Beta chapter hosted the Athena Festival March 3-8 honoring women musicians and composers. Among several special guests, composer Linda Spevacek conducted a workshop on campus featuring several of her choral works. Stacy Garrop and Nancy Wertsch both received the first annual Bradley Almquist Award for their original compositions. They were honored at the Concert Choir concert held on March 6 when their winning pieces were debuted. Several members of the Iota Beta chapter added to the week's festivities by performing in the Women's Composer Recital on March 8, which the chapter also hosted. On March 13, ten members of the Iota Beta chapter participated in the campus-wide Step Off hosted by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. After several weeks of intense practicing and the help and encouragement of their coach, Karsia Slaughter, the SAI girls proudly accepted their first-place trophy for the independent division. The Iota Beta chapter jointly hosted an American Composer Recital with the brothers of the Gamma Delta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha on April 15. Members of both fraternities performed for the event using instruments from the voice to the snare drum. The recital ended with all members of both fraternities joined in song. On April 23, the Iota Beta chapter hosted the long running Sigma Alpha Iota and Murray State traditional event, All-Campus Sing. Various campus organizations competed on the steps of Lovett Auditorium showing off their best song and dance routines. This year the chapter performed a 40's Swing Show featuring the songs, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, with trio Kat Dobbins, Alissa Oakley, and Natalie Krupansky; Fever, with soloist Rachel Wallace; and Jump Jive and Wail, with soloists Bethany Clyatt and Alaina Evans. Other names of note include Band Director Crystal Hill, Event Coordinator Bree Scholl and Director and Choreographer Andrea Reynolds.
