When I get around to having a better name, I'll change it.
Sky World is another strange geography. People and thus civilation only exist on islands that float in the sky. It is many miles to the surface of the planet, such that nobody knows or cares about the surface. The concept for this world came from a music poster in which this small chunk of land floats in the empty sky and the movie, "The Fifth Element" with its air cabs and particularly the air Chinese food vender. Gravity exists, so Niven's "Smoke Ring" world is not an appropriate source.
The floating bodies range in size from a few meters across to many kilometers in any direction. All the bodies float at roughly the same altitude. There does not seem to be more than a couple of thousand meter difference in altitude for any floating piece of land. Additional weight does not seem to have any effect on the height.
It is unclear what exactly keeps the various bodies floating. It is thought to be rare elements in the soil, or maybe ancient magic spells, or maybe something that grows, lives or has died in the soil or rock. Not only the various pieces of land can float, but also, there are floating vessels. There is one particular species of tree, that when cut down and aged properly, will float in the air.
This world is pretty much on hold.
