TIPS
MAILING PICTURES AND RESUMES
1. An easy way to target a wide variety of people in a time-honored fashion.
2. No experience required.
1. Expensive.
2. If all you have to sell is two pieces of paper, many won't care.
3. Easy to get lost in the pile of resumes people receive every day.
1. Call the agency first and see which agent actually LOOKS at pictures in the mail. Why send four when one will do?
2. Make a personal connection.
SHOWCASES
1. Easy to get into one.
2. Chance to work with other actors and new directors.
3. An opportunity to actually ACT.
1. Most are just wastes of time that no one attends.
2. Can give the illusion of progress without actually helping you any.
1. Showcases need to be convenient, Midtown is best. Forget anything in the Boroughs.
2. Showcases should be under 90 minutes long when possible.
3. When choosing a showcase, find out if anyone came to the Producers LAST showcase.
4. Find out if anyone in the cast or crew has an agent coming.
5. Remember....it's all about ACCESS, not art at this point.
6. Why not make an Indie Film instead.

SEMINARS
1. Mini-showcases with guaranteed attendance by Casting Directors and Agents. You pay to see and hear them.
1. Talent quality tends to be very mixed at these things. You risk being painted with the same BAD brush.
2. Many industry people do these JUST for money.
1. Try to be selective.
2. Choose appropriate material. (Classical stuff is usually a bad choice for example.) Know your audience.
3. Don't ask TRITE QUESTIONS.
4. Don't list such things on your resumes. These are not considered 'training." |
