Special Reading Services
may consist of one-on-one assistance or small groups outside the regular
classroom. Reading services are provided by Sandy Eggerling the Reading
Coordinator.
Students from 1st grade - 6th grade may receive some type of additional
support in reading.
1st grade students usually participate
in a one-on-one setting. Most students will have services anywhere
from 2-4 times a week. Students work on learning various reading strategies
to help them be more successful with their reading. The program also
focuses on phonetic decoding and writing. The writing piece mostly
consists of practicing hearing the various sounds in words and then producing
the correct letter.
2nd grade students usually participate in
a small group setting (2-3 students). The focus stays the same as
in the 1st grade. Depending on the level of the child, various comprehension
strategies will be taught and practiced.
3rd - 6th grade students receive
small group instruction usually 3-4 students per group. The
instruction varies from group to group depending on the needs of the
students. Comprehension strategies are taught and reinforced along
with phonics. Writing is incorporated throughout the lessons by writing
out comprehension thoughts/ideas.
TAKE HOME PACKETS are given to students
grades 1-3. I will supply reading books for the grades 4-6 if students
ask. At home reading is extremely important in order for progress
to occur and be maintained.
