The Bank of Life
Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86, 400. It carries over no balance from day to day, and every evening it deletes whatever part of the balance you fail to use during the day. What would you do?? Draw out every cent of course and spend it!!!Each of us a bank. It's name is time. Every morning it credits us with 86, 400 seconds.Every night, it writes off whatever of this we have failed to invest. It carries no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each night it burns the remains of the day.If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow". You must live in the present on today's deposits.Invest it, and get the most out of it!The clock is running ...make the most of today! To realize the value of one YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of one MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth prematurely. To realize the value of one WEEK, as the editor of a weekly newspaper (or the person who read their ecclesial program wrong!)To realize the value of one MINUTE, ask a person who missed a plane. To realize the value of one SECOND, ask a person who avoided an accident. To realize the value of one MILLISECOND, ask a person who won a goldmedal in the Olympics.Make every second count! Time waits for no one! Yesterday is history.Tomorrow is a mystery.Today is a gift...That is why we call it the present!!!This analogy holds a very important message for every disciple of Christ. Our time is limited, and we must make choices as to what we do with the time we have. We know the ultimate future, but we do not know "what a day may bring".In Ecclesiastes 12:1, the young man is told, "Remember now thyCreator in the days of thy youth". Youth is the greatest time to serve God, because young people have not just time, but energy and enthusiasm, that can be used in God's service. Of course, not everyone is young - God knows we are all at different stages of our natural and spiritual lives! That is why in Isaiah 55:6, we are told to seek the LORD "while he may be found" and to call upon Him "while he is near". We have to use our time-right now- striving to seek God and learn more about His ways and His purpose with the earth, and with each one of us. God will not accept excuses that we are too young, too old, too tired, too busy or too inexperienced. We must use every every second possible to read His Word, to pray to Him and to serve each other as we wait patientlyfor Christ's soon coming. For God "will abundantly pardon" (Isaiah55:7), if we truly seek Him. He isn't looking for those who ARE the best, he's looking for those who DO their best! God will help us make the most of our time if we ask Him to and if we are struggling to do this ourselves. Paul exhorts the ecclesia at Ephesus in Ephesians 5:16 to "make the most of every opportunity". And this is our goal today. We must strive to make the most of every opporunity; to pray, read, serve God and others, worship and preach whenever possible. We must try to use all of the 86, 400 seconds God grants us each day, so that our Judge may say that we have spent our time wisely. So that he may be able to give us the gift of eternallife - unlimited time -to serve God perfectly in the Kingdom. |
