Headquarters United States Air Force ROTC at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama recently announced its national scholarship winners among Air Force Junior ROTC candidates. Out of 625 applicants from high schools nationwide, 137 were selected. Three Wade Hampton High School AFJROTC cadets applied and all three were selected. The Generals’ winners were Lorintz Gleich, Nicole McCreery and Shieun Yoon. All three received the Type VII ROTC scholarship which is $9000 annual tuition & books for four years and a monthly tax-free stipend of $250. Upon graduation from the university they decide to attend and successful completion of that university’s ROTC program, each will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the USAF. All three winners bring outstanding credentials to ROTC and the USAF. Each has a 3.5 or better grade point average and all three lead like Generals at Wade Hampton. Gleich is captain of the varsity wrestling team as well as the JROTC Cadet CORPS’ Senior Enlisted Advisor. McCreery is a Cadet Colonel and commands the entire CORPS at Wade Hampton. Yoon is a math scholar and an active member of the Air Force JROTC Kitty Hawk Air Society, a type of national honor society within JROTC which focuses on community service and tutoring. All three give of themselves through many hours of community service and work in anti-drugs/alcohol programs.
