Pardon me for contacting you through this medium and in this manner without any prior introduction. This is due to circumstances beyond my control. I had to bribe the prison attendants to secretly allow me open an email address from the computer in their office. My name is Alhaji Mohammed Sani Abacha, the eldest surviving son of the late Nigerian Head of State, General Sani Abacha. I am currently in detention on the orders of the current Nigerian government at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Lagos on what is to me, on political grounds.

You would have read some of the news recently of how the present government claims that my late father looted their treasury before he died. Well, you can see some of them at the following websites:

Since the assumption of power by the present civilian government in Nigeria, my entire family has known no peace. The present government has set out to humiliate and persecute my late father's family and associates for both real and imagined sins' of my late father. They have confiscated all the assets they could lay hands on, frozen the family's bank accounts both here and abroad and generally emasculate the members of my family.

All these victimization and more have left me, my siblings and most especially my widowed mother in a very difficult situation in the battle for survival. In view of this experience and in order to avoid further decimation of the family's fortunes, my mother and I have decided to entrust a reasonable part of the family's hidden funds under the care of a trustworthy foreigner for safekeeping.

Her major problem is that while I am in detention my mother's movements and access are restricted since she is virtually under house arrest and constantly monitored. This explains my having to contact you through clandestine sources.

Let me therefore inform you in the utmost confidence that before the freezing of certain key bank accounts in Nigeria, we were able through a technical arrangement to withdraw monies totaling US$45,000,000.00 (Forty Five Million U.S. Dollars Only) which was immediately moved out of the country through the help of some of my late father's close associates who are still serving in the present government. It is both my wish and my mother's that you assist us in the safekeeping of these monies. My mother will be able to discuss with you if the proper arrangements are made through our lawyer, Messr abdulsan and abdulsan & Co. (Legal Practitioners & Notaries Public). The below stated documents are what you will sign on your arrival in South Africa. The telegraphic transfer documents which you will sign in the bank.  An agreement, which you will sign with Mr. Koromah, which binds you and him as partners.

Below stated information’s guides the success of this transaction.

1. You are advised to make every arrangement to arrive in Johannesburg where you will be helped to open a non–residents dollar account in one of the local commercial banks, where the fund will be deposited for onward transfer into your nominated bank account [bit by bit] as you may instruct the bank, which requires your international passport valid with the entrance visa and to sign every necessary documents regarding this transaction. This transaction will take three working days.

2. Every arrangement has been made with the manager of the local commercial banks here in Johannesburg where this money should be deposited before onward transfer to your overseas bank account.

With reference to what I had stated in my last e-mail to you concerning my request of loan from the bank, I am glad to inform you of the great outcome.

However after total evaluation of my property, the bank team approved the sum of US$28,000.00. Do remember the balance of US$45,000.00, which Mr. Prince Kabila owes to the Security Company, so we still have to complete the demurrage payment, but after Mr. Kabila pleaded for my assistance I managed to add extra US$4,000.00 making a total of US$32,000.00 so now we are faced, with the balance of US$13,000.00.

You can understand the situation because it was never my client’s intentions to involve you into any financial assistance for now. This is a critical period for both of us [Mr. Kabila and I] and it will be of most reasonable that you consider this situation very important as “winners don’t quit and quitters don’t win”

Please do make every effort, even if it requires you borrowing from anybody with interest for a period of time [five days]. This I will guarantee by signing the agreement between you and the lender.

I could have completed the sum but I have really exhausted all my financial avenues. We later resorted to ask for this great favour from you. This fund will be paid to the security Company cash on delivery of the consignment on your arrival and we would not allow the Security Company dispatch team to know the content of the consignment for security purposes. After the delivery of the consignment every expenses from individual contributors, including my service charges will be paid back before we proceed to the bank for the deposition of the fund. In view of this we request that you come down to South Africa with this sum of US$13,000.00 to enable us complete this transaction.

Please note that this transaction needs no delay so that we will not acquire more demurrage from the Security Company.
