Weather satellites are constantly transmitting tones which can be converted into weather maps. To be able to view the maps all you need is, a computer 386 and above, a sound card and the decoding software, you also need a scanner (reciever) and a fairly good antenna.
There are five weather satallites which pass over Victoria, but I have had most luck picking up the NOAA 14 and 12.
Here are the names of the satellites and the frequencies that you will be able to pick them up on:
Name: | Frequency: | Notes: |
NOAA 12 | 137.500MHz | Works fine! |
NOAA 14 | 137.620MHz | Also fine! |
NOAA 15 | 137.500MHz | Fine! |
Meteor 2/21 | 137.850MHz | Mostly turned off! |
Meteor 3/5 | 137.300MHz | On! |
You will no longer be able to pick up the Noaa 12, as the transmitter was turned off in Septerber. The reason behind this was because the Noaa 15 was catching up to the Noaa 12, and this caused interference at most ground stations.
Also the Meteir 3/5 has been turned back on, this time using a different frequency, it has moved from 137.850 to its new home at 137.300!
Hope you find this information handy, if you have any more please e-mail it to us!
