All about Nick![]() My BackgroundMy name is Nick that's one of my baby pictures... I'm not a strapping young pup any more, I'm eleven years old now. I'm not exactly what you what call a show quality miniature schnauzer, in fact some professional breeders might call me a 'backyard blooper', you know one of the "yippy-yappy", "what kind of dog is that?" type schnauzer. But then hey, you out there reading this, do you represent the best of your breed... I think not. Besides just look at my pictures, how can there be any denying that I'm a cute little devil?I live with my two humans and another schnauz named Rudy, but lets not talk about him, this page is about me! I've had plenty of mishaps in my life. Say, if a cat gets nine lives how may does a dog get? I figure I've burned up atleast three... Mama calls me her little miracle dog.
My MishapsWhen I was a year old, I managed to get into Mama's sewing box and eat a needle and thread. No one noticed anything til I was getting a bath... and wondered why I had thread sticking out the other end (humans they can be so dense sometimes what did they think, I was trying to become a mobile pin cushion?) Anyway, this needle got stuck sideways on its way out the other end. I had a very unpleasant experience with the vet fishing out the needle... to this day I hate the vet. Although it sounds like a funny story, the vet said I was lucky cause it could have poked a hole in my intestines and that would have been lights out for Mr. Nick! When I was 3 years old I hurt my back... I slipped a disc out of place. No one really knows how I did that, and I'm not talking, but the theory goes that I was probably jumping up and down (something I used to do a lot) and cause I was too roly-poly, fat cells get caught between the disc. The vet said I would never walk again, I could have an operation but the chances were slim. Mama opted for the operation (could have boughten a very nice diamond instead, but she loves me). Well, I no longer dance a good jig and walk with a limp.. but I can still chase the pigeons away with the best of them. To this day whenever I see the vet, he remarks how amazing it is that I can walk. Of course I snarl at him, I still remember the needle incident... I'll teach him where to go fishing. When I was 6, I got pancreatitis. Mama fed me something she shouldn't have... and it made me very ill. Another trip to the vet and another big dent in Mama's pocket book and I turned out fine. But I'm on a strict diet for life! Since then we've read more and found schnauzers seem to be susceptible to pancreatitis... so watch what you feed your schnauzies please NO fatty foods.
My AmbitionsI'm "head of security" in our home. I watch all day to guard against intruders. Whether it be the mail man, a cat strolling across our driveway or just leaves rustling in the wind, I am there to serve and protect. If I had my wish I would be "head of security" for the neighborhood, but my humans won't let me bark to my full potential!
