Nick's Buddy

Nick & Ziggy

While most of our fosters have grab my heart... Nick is a much tougher customer to please. To date we've had 20 fosters... and this is the only one that Nick really warmed up to and would even share his bed with.

Foster Ziggy quickly became Nick's great pal... always side by side, two peas in a pod, best buds. Ziggy reminded us much of Nick... like seeing a photographs' negative.... we fondly called them Salt (Ziggy) and Pepper (Nick). Every evening the two would greet me side by side on the staircase.... both barking like maniacs waiting to give me a hello kiss.

Ziggy was rescued from a shelter about 60 miles north of us. His story is much like Rudy's in that he was a product of a divorce where his owner subsequently moved into an apartment that didn't take dogs... so off the shelter Ziggy went. Poor guy the animal control officiers told us that his owner said she had adopted Ziggy several years earlier from the shelter. Also prior to us rescuing Ziggy he had been adopted but was returned the following day. We suspect it was due to his barking, he had severe separation anixety... but what can you expect from a dog that loses his home every couple of years?

Ziggy serves as a fine example of the wonderful dogs you can find at the shelter or rescue organizations just waiting for a family to call their own! Remember however many of these dogs require your patience and understanding... work with them and you will have a wonderful pet for life!

Can we keep him Ma?

p.s. Happy belated Birthday to Nick who turned 11 years old on 6/23/99..... glad you had a buddy or two (well ok actually four if you count all our bearded guests) to spend it with.

Update... we are happy to say we finally found the "perfect" home for the Zigman. We miss him but we also knew he needed a home of his own. He now stays at home with a nice retired lady who had owned two other schnauzer in the past. Ziggy now enjoys being the only dog and certainly the center of attention.
