Well how about that normally we get a variety of 2 legged company but this time we actually had some 4 legged bearded company, first time ever. Me and Rudy got to entertain 2 bearded ladies and 1 bearded guy for almost two weeks. Their names were Nikki, Cricket and Toto.

Now when mama first told us we were going to foster some dogs for a couple of weeks we said now wait a minute HOLD everything, will they be eating any of our milkbones? Mama said not to worry she bought a very very large box and that we should be nice boys because these kids were not as fortunate as us. Well then we agreed it would be ok to let them stay a couple of weeks and we'd be very good host as long as our milkbone supply was not impacted.

So there you have it, with us and the company we had 5 wagging tails, 10 big brown eyes, 20 legs running around and my goodness a grand total of a 100 clicking toenails (no wait a minute... only 80 clicking toenails, forgot about us dogs only having 4 toes on each foot)!! Anyway it does sound a bit like that Christmas tail if you know what I mean... hmmmmm the 14 days of Schnauzermas.

Well these guys were very shy at first and they didn't trust any of the 2 leggeds very much. Can you believe at first some of them actually refused milkbones? Our friends were very scared, mama said they had been treated very badly by 2 leggeds. Mama had to teach them it was ok to take milkbones from her. Boy... she can teach me and Rudy that trick any day, we are very good at making milkbones disappear. These guys were fast learners though, cause by their second day they not only wanted their milkbones, me and Rudy had to wolf down ours quickly because I think they would have also eaten ours too if we let them. And by day 3 they were well in tune with what the sound of rattling a milkbone box meant. Thats how mama got all of our attentions... shake the box and automatically you had 5 dogs sitting with 10 begging eyes staring at you... and of course one dog barking at ya (that's would of course be me, Nick).

After they were here for a couple of days they were romping around here like it was home. Toto liked getting pop's dirty socks from the hamper and drag them everywhere. Nikki took over my lamby toys, but I let her cause mama said I had to share. Cricket seemed to have a thing for the Rudy, she was chasing him around! All in all it was fun. I especially liked having an extra 6 ears to help listen for stuff that Mr. Nick should be barking at. Rudy was also in heaven enjoying Cricket's attention.... what a cad, I think I'll drop both Miss Lily and Miss Michele a note about Rude Dog's flirtations (Rudy's been reading too much of the newpaper lately, President Clinton has obviously had an adverse affect on him).

Everything is very quiet at our house (well... except for Mr. Nick), mama says she misses the kids, but well me and Rudy are still her laying at her feet and ready at anytime to accept milkbones... Love ya ma!

Oh yeah one more thing, I over heard mama talking to pop and it seems we will be having an more company in September. An aunt will be visiting for 2 weeks and she is bringing a C-A-T... thats right I said a C-A-T. Now mama thinks just because she spells it I don't know what she is talking about.... but I do! Let me assure your that Mr. Nick knows just how to treat a kitty too!! I can hardly wait, of course I'll be good (NOT)!!

Editors note: Here we looked at the lighter side of their visit... we did indeed enjoy fostering them and think after they were here for a couple of days they loosen up and had a good time themselves. But when they first arrived they were very frightened, these were puppy mill dogs that had been obviously abused and their trust had to be earned. Nikki the female was 6 years old and did not have any front teeth. Both girls looked very worn from years of having back to back litters. We are very happy that we were able to help them and know they will be going to live with some wonderful families. But did want to take the time the remind everyone please do not patronalize petstores that sell puppies and kittens, it only keeps these puppy mills in business.
